How to Lose 10 Pounds in Ten Days

I was going to release this as my next guide however I have decided to share it instead via a post.

I want to start this article by letting you know that I am not a health guru, I’m not a fitness freak, I don’t even go to the gym, and I’m not a medical expert in any way.  I am an ordinary guy who wanted to lose a few pounds and accidentally discovered a way to do this, and I am so excited to share what I discovered as I know it can work for you too.

What I am going to tell you is not rocket science and it’s not a new discovery, many people have already benefited from the information I am about to share with you.  However, I discovered this for myself completely by accident without reading any books, without consulting a health guru and having no previous knowledge of this method for losing weight.

The simplicity of this method is what makes it so very easy for you to lose your first eight pounds.  Please do not be put off by its simplicity and please, please, please don’t dismiss it before you actually try it.  When you try it, you will see results within 1 week and after 2 weeks I know you will have lost at least eight pounds, depending on your weight to begin with of course.

Okay, let’s start by telling you the story of how I discovered this simple weight loss plan.

The story behind the guide

Only a few months ago I was struggling to keep my weight to under 212 pounds (15 st 2 Ibs), which is not that heavy but nearly 14 pounds (1 stone) heavier than I was 3 years earlier. I had been sitting around the 210 mark for about 1 year and decided I wanted to do something about it and get to the weight I was 3 years earlier.  The only exercise I was getting was walking every day for 2 miles, and I didn’t fancy going to the gym every day.  I am extremely busy with my online business and spending time with my family, which is very important to me.

I tried all kinds of diets in the past; the atkins diet, burnfat4dummies diet and just the basic diet of eating less.  Yes the diets works, but they don’t help you keep the weight off unless you make that diet a part of your every day life. We all know that the less we put into our mouths the more weight we will lose, but our minds throw up all kinds of excuses for eating less, the main one being ‘I’m bloody hungry, so I need something else to eat’.

My huge downfall is biscuits.  I can eat a pack of biscuits in one sitting, dipping up to 10 digestive biscuits into my cup of tea would take a few minutes.  A few minutes to shovel 700 calories into my mouth, that’s 1/3rd of my recommended intake!

The accidental discovery

About 9 weeks ago I discovered something that helped me lose 8 pounds within 1 week.  I was flabbergasted, and so was my wife.  I looked at exactly what I had been doing different.  I wasn’t exercising any more than normal, I wasn’t any more stressed than normal, I didn’t have a bug of any kind.  And then it hit me what I had been doing differently – Drinking water.  Now before you go and send me an email saying ‘Oh’ I know this already’, just read this guide to find out exactly how I managed to lose 8 pounds in 1 week and go on to lose 12 pounds and keep the weight off, without any real effort on my part.

I started drinking water as a way to cleanse my body, as I started feeling sluggish in the mornings.  I get up very early, around 4.30 – 5am, and always feel alert and ready to write as I am always excited to start the day online before getting ready for my day job.  For a few weeks I was still getting up at 4.30, but I was feeling a little sluggish, which wasn’t like me.  I felt bloated, and felt like I needed a good detox.  I was going to try fasting for a few days per week, just to rid myself of all the crap inside my body, but then decided I would start drinking water to clear my insides, aid my digestion and just generally feel healthier.  I was used to drinking water throughout the day, but not in any planned way, and sometimes skipped the water a lot of the days.

So I made a concerted effort to drink water every day. I started drinking water as soon as I got up, about 500ml, and again 1 hour later I drank another 500ml, during the day at lunch time (500 ml) 30 minutes before every meal I drank 250ml and  another 250ml a few hours before going to bed.  Great! It worked.  After a few days I felt less sluggish and less bloated throughout the day – job done, just keep drinking water and I would be back to my normal energetic self.  That’s what I thought, until I weighed myself 1 week later and discovered I was down to 204 pounds (14st 8Ibs).  Obviously I thought the scales were playing up and stepped off the digital scales to wait for ‘error’ to show up on the little screen, but no, everything was okay.  I stepped back on, and again the reading was 204 pounds – I shouted for my wife, who weighed herself and sure enough the scales were working okay, no anomalies, no battery losing power, no slopes in the bathroom to skew the results.  Could drinking 2 litres of water help me lose weight?

I then started to experiment.  I stopped drinking water for 1 week, only occasionally drinking it when I felt thirsty, just as before.  1 week later I was back up to 209 pounds (14st 13Ibs).  Words can’t describe how I felt, you’d think I’d discovered the lost city of Atlantis (quite fitting really).  I then went on to experiment more and ask lots of questions and done a hell of a lot of research on the many benefits of water.

As I write this, I am down to 200 (14st 4Ibs)  pounds, a full 12 pounds lighter than I was a few weeks earlier.  I have even hit 198 pounds (14st 2Ibs), which is what I weighed 3 years ago, totally amazing.  You can probably tell I was, and am, excited about this.  You have to understand I haven’t changed my diet in any way, I was still eating the biscuits, and coming up to Christmas there’s always goodies in the office to munch on.

During my research it turns out that A lot of other people have discovered the many benefits of drinking water, including to help keep your weight down.  But, I want to give you an exact plan, a very easy plan that will help you lose weight and help you keep it off.  Not only will you lose weight but you will have more energy, feel healthier and feel more alert.  All this by not really changing your lifestyle and drinking a few glasses of water every day, even if you are not exercising, not dieting, and still eating your Big Macs.

The Daily Plan

This is an extremely simple plan and one which I have followed now for around 6 weeks with huge benefits and little downside.

Time How much
As soon as you get up each morning Drink between 300 – 600ml of water
1 hour later (before breakfast) Drink between 250 – 500ml of water
After every cup of coffee/tea Drink between 100 – 250ml of water
20 Minutes before each main meal Drink between 250 – 500ml of water
2 Hours before going to bed Drink between 300 – 600ml of water
Total amount of water per day Between 1200 – 2,450ml

The amount of water you drink will depend on your current weight.  Obviously a woman of 150 pounds does not need to drink as much as a man who is 300 pounds in weight.

Why the water plan helps you to lose weight

You might be asking yourself why such a simple, plentiful, substance such as water can help you to lose weight.

In the plan you’ll notice that I’ve said as soon as you get up to drink ½ litre of water.  This is to kick start the metabolic process.  You brain does not distinguish between food and water, and treats water as food.  This means that the metabolic process is kick started as soon as you drink water in the morning and will start to use the energy to process the water.

There are many forms of metabolism going on in your body right now, but the one we are concerned about is the metabolism of fat. This is actually something that the liver does when it converts stored fat to energy. The liver has other functions, but this is one of its main jobs.

However the liver is also a close friend with the Kidneys, which need plenty of water to function properly.  If the kidneys are not getting enough water the liver goes into overdrive and does it’s own work as well as pick up the slack from the kidneys, which lowers the functioning of the liver.  The liver then can’t metabolize fat as quickly as it should therefore fat is stored.

There’s a lot more to it than that, I just wanted to give you one of the areas where water affects the body and how it can change our bodies.

Resisting the temptation not to try it

A lot of you might be thinking ‘I know that already, I’ve tried it.’  The key to using this is to keep using it, no point in doing it for a couple of days and then stopping; make it a habit.

The first few days of drinking more water will have you running to the loo more times than you’ll like, however if you stick with it you will see some amazing benefits.  Your body has been storing water for years, and the more fresh water you drink the more flushed your system will be and it will get rid of the water it was originally holding onto.  That means less water retention, less swelling of the ankles, hips and thighs and even from around the stomach area.  You will not only be flushing the body out but you will excreting all the stored water as your mind and body realize it no longer has to store water as it is getting all that it needs.  You’ll also increase your ability to hold the water and return to a normal loo routine.

Other benefits

Drinking plenty of water is also great for your skin.  It flushes out all the impurities which will leave you with a glow and a great complexion.  You’ll also notice your skin looking younger and healthier.

You also notice a difference in muscle tone. You can lift all the weights you need, but if your muscles are not hydrated you won’t see a big difference in your appearance. When you muscles that have all the water they need. they contract more easily, making your workout more effective, and you’ll look better for it.

There’s a million reasons to drink more water, but I wanted to make this about losing weight with water so I will leave it at that.

As always I would love to know what you think about this.

Some Amazing Comments

About the author

  • Glad I found this article. Was doing a search to see if there was any new info on losing weight with water. Some years ago I gained a lot of weight. Had always been skinny and ate and drank what I liked.

Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue resulted in excessive weight gain. A few yrs later a tumor was found on my pituitary gland. They did not have to operate. Gave me pills to shrink it. I prayed after I got home and felt compelled to research water. It’s believed by some that severe dehydration is behind tumors. The brain is over 80% water. Makes sense to me.

I’d never drank much water ever. Mostly soda, tea, coffee. Anyway, I had an uncontrollable thirst after coming home from the hospital for about a month, and no desire for soda. I lost all the excess weight within that month. It just dropped. A friend noticed before I did and asked what I did to lose weight. All I had noticed was my clothes falling off my waist and wondering why. Duh. That’s when I realized it was the water.

I can’t tell you how much water I drank everyday but it was constant and the size of those hospital jugs they sit by your bed. I don’t drink soda to this day, but do drink coffee and tea. Additionally I never changed my diet or activities during that time.

All these years later in my 50’s I find weight hard to lose and you know what? I know it’s because I slacked off the water. I’m on the computer a lot working and computer equipment is very dehydrating. Literally sucks water out of you. So I should know better. I also love to walk and garden and that helps a lot as well, but winter I put weight on easily being less active. When we carry too much weight for our size and don’t drink enough water, it can result in joint pain, headaches, back pain and swelling in ankles, legs and feet. As well as bloating in other parts of our body like the infamous belly. Only one thing I would add to what you shared. If you can find an exercise or activity to make you perspire or even sweat, all the better.

I’ve been researching and writing down my experiences hoping to write a book sometime in the future to encourage older women like myself–not medical advice–but nothing like proving it for yourself. Needed this reminder. Something as simple as water does have astounding health benefits and you will lose excess weight and regulate your weight. Thanks again for the reminder and presenting it in such simple understandable terms.

  • Hey Steven,
What a great article, drinking water does works wonders.. The same results has happened to me. So simply but over looked.. Thx

  • Thank you so much for this amazing idea! I was looking up on how to loose. Weight with just something simple and that doesn’t cost much money. I’m am so grateful you spent your time writing this!!! I weight 14stone11pounds. So your frame of water intake will fit my life perfectly. I am also on a diet to so this will also be a big help with weight loss. I am so happy to have bumped into this. It’s nothing harmful and all natural! I will update with my progress in ten days:). If anyone would like to compare results or just be on this together email me at @ I’d love some support I am a girl to by the way :). And I am nearly seventeen. I’ve tried every diet going and I had no luck with none of them. Just one question if I stop drinking this intake of water after a few months will I put weight back on? Thank you so much:D x

  • Hi Stevan,
I am going to try this in next week. I expect your wish.. Now I am 57 kg with 24 age of weight. I wanted to reduce 7 kg in a week or within 2 weeks.

I am expecting good result.. I will follow the same diet you have given in that chart.. Please suggest me.. if you wanted to add any more point. I am glad to listen..

  • the extra water is certainly beneficial and you should continue, but you seem not to really understand how it works. yes, in a dehydrated person decreased renal function means the liver has to compensate, and this interferes with the liver’s ability to process fat for burning in the muscles. but for adequately hydrated people this is a non issue. there are four other possible explanations: (1) the water is filling your stomach, which in turn is reducing your appetite, which in turn is leading to reduced calorie consumption; (2) the water is making you more aware of your consumption through the day, which is leading to an overall reduction; (3) the increased water consumption is leading to a decrease in consumption of higher calorie drinks; and (4)–this one is certainly occurring–the increased water consumption has led to increased urination, which will necessarily lead to sodium loss, and an overall reduction in weight. as an experiment you could try cutting sodium back to 1500mg per day and see how much additional effect that has.

  • I lost 5 pounds over the weekend while drinking lots and lots of water! Frequent urination over the night but it is worth it! It’s like a water detox!!!

  • SIR CAN I ASK? im loosing weight (trying) this is my third day in my gym and i read this article…. DOES IT MATTER COLD OR NOT COLD WATER? And do you eat normally or dieting?? THANKS SIR :)

  • OMG why didn’t I see this earlier. I want to walk, clean, swim. I feel energetic and happy and so does my skin. Lost 5 lbs in 12 days but who cares. It works and this is just the beginning :)

    Thank you Steve!!!!

  • I began this water thing about 3 weeks ago. Every body is different. But i must say that i lost weight since then. Not 10 pounds in 10 days but 8 pounds in 21 days. my first 10 days i was drinking the amounr you reommended but it just left my body feeling bloated and i actually gained a couple pounds in the beginning. But i decreased the water to a moderate amount and completely replaced my regular beverage at every meal with water. I don’t work out or didn’t change my eating habits. I am hungry less often now so it’s a good thing. Thanks for this post Steve, hope i continue to lose weight and i’ll begin working out as well.

    • hi steve am very glady for this type of losing a weight i was 105kg since i use this water thing now am 100kg i lost 5pounds in 2week and am still drinking lot of water and i enjoying now thnk steve

  • Hi,Steven! I saw in the news recently about a man lost 30 kilos by drinking 10 liters of water. He is still eating normal but cut down his sweets. I thought of doing the same until I read about your article. I just started yesterday, May 22 and this is my second day. On my first day I started by drinking 1.5 liters upon waking up then another two bottles of 1.5 liters. I used to go for a lot of bathroom trips even I drink small glass of water and yesterday was alot more than usual. Today, I finished 3 bottles of 1.5 liters and that is 4.5 liters. I am planning to increase after 2 more days. I don’t drink too much water after 6pm because as I said, I have so many trips in the bathroom and it is disturbing my sleep. I noticed that I only urinate alot. But I don’t poop as expected. My normal pooping is twice a day. Is it because my fat deposit is really stubborn? Does it really take days before I loose all my poops? Thank you. I hope to lose weight soon.

  • Hi Steve I will try your plan tomorrow.:) And I do exercise too and I weght about 158.5 or something right now. I will start with 8 cups of water. :)

  • hey is it ok if i will drink 2 liter of water for 10 days without doing any exercises cuz i m having Igcse exams and i donot have enough time to exercise. although i always drink very few water 1 or 2 glass a day thats it i donot take more than it .

  • I came across another reason why this works. Take for example a cactus, it’s in the desert and so knows there’s a lack of water there, for this reason, the cactus will store as much water as possible, this is the reason for it’s adaptation of a huge, thick stem. Similiarly, if a person doesn’t drink water often, your body knows, so it stores all the water in thighs and ankles etc. however, if you do drink a lot of water, your body knows it’s got a lot of supply handy, so it will lose the water it’s been ‘safekeeping’.

  • Hi MiMi,M and every other April 2013 beginner. I have been drinking 74.4oz a water for the past two days (April 25,2013) and I look forward to reading your updates and seeing my results!

  • age – 18 years

    sex – female

    height – 5 feet 4 inch(162.56 cm)

    weight- 68.8 kg (151.678 pound)

i need to lose 13.8 kg but i hardly drink one glass of water a day . i will continue eating as i always do and report back after 2 weeks .so it will be a challenge for me.

i will start drinking 2 liter of water from 22 nd april 2013

and i will report back at 6th may 2013.

  • I’m definitely trimg this, starting tomorrow morning. I’ll comment again in ten days to let you know how it went for me :)

  • Hi. So I’m 15 and This Water Diet is actually helping! I doubted it at first, but on Tuesday & Wednesday I lost a total of 5 pounds In Just 2 days! This is really helping me get to my Goal Weight super Fast !!

  • That first glass of water in the morning could use some fresh squeezed lemon juice and a dash of cayenne pepper too, to kick start you metabolism, and cleanse you!

  • hello, i have always loved drinking water when i was young, even in winter and everyone liked commenting on it and i remember i always kept the same weight although i didin’t know why. now I’m gonna start all over again thanks for the insight.

  • Hey!
I’m actually really excited to try this, I stumbled upon this really randomly. I’m going to start tomorrow.
My only concern: I saw that you said you stopped drinking water for a week and gained everything back….so if I stop 1 day or 2 days…I’ll gain everything back? I’m Muslim — we have a fasting month, now it’s in practically 10 months, but I’m already thinking ahead, if I’m not going to be able to eat or drink water all day…does that mean in the month of Ramadan in a few months I’ll gain all the weight I could possibly lose back?? Let me know! THanks!

  • Hi,
i drink about 8 glasses of water per day.
I use a water filter to filter out chlorine which helps with the taste.
Thank you for the “water plan” (my words), now i have a more structured way of enjoying good old H2O.
Thanks for all the info, this will help a great deal.
I will see if i can knock off a few of those 270 lbs!
    Good day

  • This might be a stupid question, but would drinking flavoured water produce the same results?

    • Hey Jade,
      There are no stupid questions!
I think the idea of drinking more water is to fill you up before meals and keep your body hydrated, both of which increase your metabolism (this is a good thing). The fact that the water has some flavoring in it should not change the effect very much. But check the sugar content on your flavored water. I would think that more sugar will do less good.

  • Hi Steve,
Thank you very much for this informative. I will start right away because i need to shed this weght. God bless you real good.

  • hi i am 185 pounds , and target to reach 150’s …i always use to drink more than 3 litres daily…should i increse the intake…i am finding difficulty in seeing effects .

  • hi Steven,
i am 185 pounds and i want to reach target of 150 pounds (as suited acc to my my height), i used to drink around 4 litres of water daily. Is it good to increase the amount of water intake?? i am just dwelling around 180’s with 4litres of water daily. :(

  • Can drinking so much also help me quit smoking. I am on the verge of it, today I tried drinking three litres of water and felt rather good on it, all zingy and whole, so am happy to make it a daily event. Maybe feeling zingly will make me think again about trashing it with tobacco. I only need one more small push and I think I am there. Maybe water will help me do that too. Interested to see how much I weigh in a few weeks to. I do a lot of dance and burn a lot but recently I seem to have been putting on weight, which I don’t understand, so maybe I have not been drinking enough water and the metabolism has been out of kiltre. Anyway, great piece. Nicely written. I respond much better to autobiographical advice than academic advice! Anything on quitting smoking?

  • Okay so I stand 5’7 and I am 156 pounds. Im trying to ge down too 130 pounds before summer. I dont drink too much water, but after reading your article Im willing to try today ! I am a female though, and I would like to know how this plan would work for me? Would I only drink a Full glass of water then? With the same routine you were on?

  • Hey steve,
Thanks a lot for this wonderful water plan. I started this plans for 4 days now. I already lost 2 and a half pounds! isnt that great. I hope i will loose 10 pounds in 10 days!

  • Hi Steven!
I have never been a big water drinker but I always tried to drink a couple of glasses a day. I tried increasing my intake and drinking water first thing in morning and I have noticed I am more energenic. I am hoping this works as I gave up smoking 3 months ago and started working out. I have toned up but I haven’t lost any weight. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks Lisa

  • Hi Steve,

I have very high tryglycerides. Its almost 2500…I knw nobody will beleive it…I am trying all the foods n medicines to get it down. Will surely try your water plan…In case you hv more info about tryglycerides…please share it wit me.

    Thanks again,

  • THank you so much for sharing this! It gives me hope of losing a few extra pounds..I’m 130 but i’m only 5 foot 1 so I would be more comfortablea t 120 so thank you soo much..

    • Same (or similar) here – have been drinking quite large quantities of water since March but didn’t shed more than a pound…if at all. Don’t know what I am doing wrong or what can be the reason for failing in my case.

  • Hi there, for those who hate drinking water try adding cucumber to it. Just slice up some cucumber and add some slices to your water. It makes a huge difference and gives it a fresh crisp taste! 😉 I actually w fill a juice jug or water bottle with water and some cucumber slices at night before I go to bed and it tastes great in the am!

  • I really would love to try this!– BUT– I honestly just don’t like the taste of water at all. Sometimes I don’t even drink water for a few days, it tastes terrible!

So do you think it would be okay to put like 0 cal, no sugar, no carb, no nothing like ocean spray little packets in the water to give it flavor? because I cant even stand thinking about drinking that much nasty water lol. i know its odd for me to think of water that way- but i really just cant stand it.

    • Is it your town water you can’t stand, or do you hate water PERIOD? If your town water tastes really bad (believe me, I know how that feels), maybe try buying bottled water. If you shop around a bit, you may be able to find a large pack of bottles for a reasonable price. :)

But I think the Ocean Spray packets SHOULD (IMO) be okay.

  • I did this for one day….. Lost three pounds! Will I gain the weight back if I stop drinking water? When I can I stop

  • I am super excited to try this out. I do mostly drink water and have cut out most of the soda that I used to drink. So hopefully it will be an easy addjustment for me.

  • Heyy
Just about to start this, as my aunt appeared to have lost a serious amount of weight when i had recently seen her, and she said it came down to drinking, a hell of a lot of water.
So i found this website :)
Just wondering when you lose the weight, can u notice it, or is it just fluids. So yeh can u actually tell the difference, like going from a bulged stomach to a flatter stomach for example.

    • Ten pounds is fair bit, so I think you will notice a few subtle changes in your body, such as clothes fitting better. Generally (at least in my experience) losing ten pounds or more is apparent all over the body. My stomach is my major problem area and it went down. But I also noticed slimming in all other areas such as face, arms, legs, feet, etc.

And by the way, this is true in weight loss when using any diet that works. Hope that helps. :)

  • I find your results incredible, though not completely unbelievable. Water is nature’s finest medicine. (It has been proven to prevent cancer from developing, increase ones metabolism, prevent fatigue and constipation, and much more!) I am attempting to lose 10 pounds at the moment, and I think the water diet will be my diet of choice. By the way, if you don’t mind, I’m going to add your blog post to my site Ways to Drink More Water. I am sure others will find your post inspirational! Cheers! Heather

  • Hi,

I drink atleast 2.5 litres a day. But since I am software engineer I keep sitting all the time in front of the system. Will this still work out for me?

  • hi thanks for the information.i dont drink water at all.. i eat lot of suger and i mean normal suger and im alady weight 56kg and 175cm tall. i will try this not to lose weight but to clean the suger in my body

  • hi, my name is christine and i ran across your blog and was curious and continued to read the post . I am not a water drinker AT ALL. and am excited about trying this. It totally makes since and i dont know why i never thought about drinking more water to loose weight. but, I’ve always told myself to drink more water but just couldn’t get myself to do it. Thanks so much for the information, it has totally motivated me too drink more water. and i’m excited about losing the weight as well.

  • Thanks for this article .. I am drinking since a week 2 liters at least per day .. But I am not following the plan. I keep water bottle in front of me all day and drink every while and the , is that OK ?

I have a habit that I can’t get rid of .. Some people say it’s bad .. That is drinking water while eating … Specially with lunch and dinner .. I drink water instead of juice or soft drinks .. Is that bad ?

  • Another tip to lose 10 lbs in 10 days is to go completely off gluten. This means no pasta, no bread, cereal, etc. Do a little research just to get up to speed on how many food products contain gluten – it’s everywhere.

Not only does this work for me, but it makes me feel so much better all around.

Many people have gluten sensitivities – try going off for a week or so, and you will lose the weight and may even feel better than you have in years…..

  • Hi,

    I’ve just read this
    “The Daily Plan”
isn’t it too much water? :(

And would someone tell me, should i drink hot water or simple water?
I mean I’ve to boil it or no need? :)

  • So amazingly simple and inexpensive and relatively easy. It’s a new habit that needs some support structures while your bladder gets used to the new requirements. Well worth the effort. Thanks for being so scientific about this process. When I drink 96oz of water a day, I feel better. I need to re-start this habit. I don’t know why I think that I can stop and still feel the same. Wishful thinking :)

  • heyy
i hve tried this and it does really work… my craving 4 sweets hve gone down. but today i dunno what happened i ate a whole packet of biscuit and im feeling soo guilty…. and den i drank 1L of water … i hope i dun gain back… i also wanted 2 noe that does one lose inches wise??? coz its just the scale which is showing !! and i need 2 reduce my hips and thighs….dey r really 2 huge… can u suggest what to do 4 that,,,i really dun;t fancy gyms… anything which wuld give me fast results..

  • Steve,

Thanks for putting together and sharing that plan! Like others I start drinking water too late in the day and I am certainly not a consistent water drinker day to day.

That is a great plan and I will definately be trying it out – I have already started!

    • Steve,

Thanks again for the plan. I would be keen to know how you set reminders for yourself to remember! I am remembering the quanties just not the time! Calendar alerts? What worked for you?

  • Hello Steven,

This reminds me of a friend a few years back who discovered the same thing. He worked in construction and his typical lunch was a burger, fries and sugary soft drink. He’d tried many diets, without success. Somehow he stumbled on the idea of drinking a LOT of water, all day long. Just like you, he slimmed down noticeably in a very short time, and his energy was remarkable.

Drinking my early morning water now….

    Cheers, Sheila

  • hello Steven,
Thanx for ur posting. i am going to try this from tomorrow and let u know after some days.

  • Guys and Gals,

    This works. Full Stop.

I did not know the reason behind it though… I used to do this 5 years back and I noticed a considerable difference. I am now putting it to test again…

This probably is not being propagated as you can imagine the number of companies that will close down if they know this simple truth!

thanks Steve for sharing this wonderful secret. Appreciate your efforts in doing a mini research on this topic ^_^

    • Hi I am going to try the water diet and see . I will find out if I will loss weight. I don’t really need to but I would like to try cutting my belly fat just to see if I can flatten my stomatch
I have a question : if you don’t mind me asking are you in Canada and in a city or rural living area?
      let me know thanks

  • Hi Steven,
Thank you so much for sharing! I am starting your plan today and I will let you know more in 10 days. I am a woman and under 150, but I have 10 ponds that are sticking to me like white on rice for the last year and I can’t get rid of it. I am doing 400ml in the morning and will do 150 ml before the meals and bedtime. Is this correct or should I do more? Please let me know.
Again thank you for sharing. I will do the same and send your article to other friends who need to lose weight.
Have a wonderful week and I will let you know how much I lost in 10 days :-)

  • hi =] so I was just wondering for my weight of 130 and I’m 31 years of age (female) 5 feet how do I know how much to drink a day?

  • Besides the flush effect mentioned by Jason, another reason this works is probably that the water distends your stomach. There are nerves that report stomach distention to your brain, and it decreases appetite.

Your brain also monitors the volume and density of your blood, and if it starts to become too dilute it will remove water from the system – possibly more water than you took in.

  • I live in a desert climate and during the summer temperatures reached 53C during the day. I kept a 1.5 litre bottle of water with me all the time, drank at least 2 every day and some days got through 3 of them. “Coincidentally” I also weighed several pounds less than I do now!

As the temperature’s dropped, I’ve been drinking less. Thanks for the motivation to start upping my intake again :)

  • Steve – thanks for the reminder.

Sometimes the best coaches don’t teach us new things as much as they remind us of what we already know. Phil Jackson was a great coach, but he didn’t know basketball better than Michael Jordan, what he did however was help Michael reach his full potential by reminding and reinforcing the basic common sense stuff… like drinking lots of water!

I raise my glass of H2o to you. Cheers!

  • Its so wonderful how you laid out a observation table and this neat advice. Great work. Me on the other hand. I’m working on gaining weight not losing it..=) Have a great weekend.

  • Steve,
I’m going to try it! I’ll let you know of my results. I like to drink water, so don’t see a problem making myself drink more and on the schedule you’ve laid out for us.
I think the biggest hurdles for me will be converting liters into ounces (lol!) and making sure I’m close to a “loo” at all times during the day.

Thanks so much for this excellent post. It couldn’t have come at a better time.

  • Hey steve :)
Being a docotr myself, I have been doing this for 1.5 – 2 years now. And, as u have said, it works like a miracle ! Never doubt the power of simplicity.

Thank you for reminding me to keep up the habit!

  • hi,
its great to know ,going to start it from tommo n will let u know .i need to loose atleaste 1 stone …thanx for sharinggggggg.

  • I’m fairly sure this works because drinking that much water actually has a diuretic effect on your body. Your higher weight makes the 10 lb. weight loss possible. Before shoots, fitness models will drink enormous amounts of water for a week or so, then stop abruptly. This puts the body in ‘flush’ mode, and with an absence of water to replace what’s being flushed out, they get the tight look you see in magazines. Bodybuilders do the same thing before shows. Same concept.

  • Hi Steve,

Thanks for this article. I remember introducing a ‘water cleanse’ into my morning routine, a year or so ago. I gave up because I was running to the loo so many times before getting to work!
Your article has inspired me to try again.
I love the fact that you recommend smaller amounts than what I was initially trying to drink and that you have given us a schedule to work to.

    Thanks again

    Jackie Josephs

PS. I discovered you by ‘accident’ and love reading the informative articles on our site. Much appreciated

    • Hi Jackie. The running to the loo thing last for about 1-2 weeks, after that your bladder and brain get used to the extra water and it settles down to a normal loo routine :)

Glad you accidentally discovered the blog Jackie, great to have you here.

  • Hello Steve,

Thanks for providing such valuable information in a post. It’s great that you laid out what happened in your experiments and observations.

I have tried to instill a habit of drinking 1 litre of water at the start of my day but not having much success. Now that I know that it can help me lose weight as well, I’d be more committed for sure!

Most useful post for me that I have read in the recent week. Thanks!

  • Steven, I am so excited to read this because I have suspected, a few times in the past, that when I would go through a phase of drinking even a couple of glasses of water a day that I seemed to lose weight. But unfortunately I’ve always reverted to my coffee habit and forgotten about drinking water after a week or two. I will try your schedule starting tomorrow and will let you know how it goes.
Wey hey…thanks for this! Cinderella WILL fit in her ball gown on Christmas day after all! ;D

    • Hey Rosemary, I still have mu morning coffee and a few cups throughout the day, however coffee is a diuretic so you can become dehyrated if you drink too much. I follow a coffee with about 100-200ml of water.

  • Hi Steve

I recently adopted a heart healthy lifestyle. I had very high triglyceride blod levels so I made some significant changes. I cut out all sugars, refined carbs, saturated fats and trans fat. I increased my aerobic excerise from 5 minutes a day to….. 30 to 45 minutes a day. I increased my water intake.

My secret weapon is my morning bowl of porridge. It has cold rolled oats, oat bran, pysillium husk, flax seed meal, quinoa ,stevia and chai seed. It fills me up. The oat bran is especially good at lowering triglyceride levels.
I eat more veggies. I eat more soups. I eat less bread and less meat.

In two weeks I reduced my blood levels of triglyceride from 9.1 to 1.1. Normal is under 1.6 and very high is over 5.5. When I started I was 229lbs. Four weeks later I am 211.3 lbs.

I wrote down your water plan and will try drinking more water.

    Thanks for your timely post

  • Hi Steven. I drink tons of water but I tend to drink it in huge amounts about twice per day, beginning in the late afternoon. I must say that I notice a significant difference when I drink a glass of water as soon as I wake up. I can’t wait to see if it makes a difference once I try spacing the water-drinking out in the way you’ve described here. Sounds like a good plan.

    • Hi Nea, I think drinking it first thing in the morning is key to the success of this plan. I have experimented in different ways and drinking first thing in the morning was the best time to start.

  • Steven,

I can see this working because I know that when I drink a glass of water before eating a meal I do eat significantly less.

Having just had a baby it is too early for me to exercise so I’m looking forward to giving this a try. I’ve been told to drink more water anyway! I will let you know how it goes. Hopefully as well as the early riser guide! :)

    • Hi Stacy. Congratualtions on the new addition to your family :)

You’ll not be getting much sleep, so we’ll see whether or not the early riser program works out for you.

Let us know how you get on with drinking more water.
