“Each day is a little life: every waking and rising a little birth, every fresh morning a little youth, every going to rest and sleep a little death.” Arthur Schopenhauer
What are your sleeping habits like?
If you’ve been waking up in a negative mood you already know the numerous disadvantages and problems that come up with it. Also, if you regularly oversleep you probably know the negative effect this has on your productivity and effectiveness throughout the day.
How do I know? Because it increased mine! I am waking up each and every day at 5 am, I am running for one hour, I’m taking a shower and after that I’m meditating for another 45min. Then at 7am I start the day regularly and before going at bed at night I go over my ritual of expressing gratitude and meditating again for 15-20min. I have to tell you ““ once I started doing this, everything in my life changed!
Here’s what you can expect”¦
Some Benefits of Falling Asleep in a Great Mood
The last minutes of your day can be critical for your mood before falling asleep. The subconscious mind is wide open during the seconds when our consciousness shuts down and we fall asleep and the thoughts and feelings during this time will determine to a great extent the mood we will wake up with.
That’s why it is extremely important to be in control in this period. Never go to bed when in a negative mood. Instead of feeling anger, guilt, resentment, fear, jealousy, rage etc. replace these emotions with the feelings of happiness, joy, love, compassion and peace.
Create a list of 10 things you’re grateful for and feel deep appreciation before closing your eyes. Try to think about these things that make you feel wonderful until you fall asleep completely. You’ll be amazed by the stress-free morning that awaits you!
That’s not the only benefit!
Your sleep quality will improve so much – you’ll sleep like a baby! You will be amazed by the productivity you’ll be operating with the very next day. Also, your energy levels will be boosted by at least 100%. You will feel relaxed and positive and this in turn will lead to a healthier lifestyle as well.
Even the food you prefer will gradually start to change!
Recent studies showed that the mind and body free of emotions of depression, fear and stress ““ tend to eat healthy food rich with vitamins and avoid high-carb and sugar foods!
Why Focusing on a Regular and Habitual Nighttime Schedule Can Improve Your Life
If you would like to have a fresh and energetic morning, then find what works and contributes to it, and then simply stick to it!
By having a strict and regular schedule for your sleeping time, you will always be in control of your days.
Go to sleep earlier and then wake up earlier! Start by changing your rhythm by one hour earlier, and then another one and another one ““ until you reach the biorhythm of waking up in 5am.
Yes, you heard me well ““ 5 AM! You have no idea what this can do for you!
Here are some reasons why this will boost your effectiveness and productivity:
You will have much more time to do the things you love to do!
Understand, that no matter who and what you are ““ be it a successful multi-billion business man or a dishwasher in McDonald’s ““ the universal principle of time is the same for everyone! We all have the same amount of time and we have been the ability to choose how we spend it. All successful people make excellent use of the time and one of the best ways to do this is to extend it! By waking up in 5am you will gain power and lots of control. In that period of the day, everything is so quiet, the nature is in perfect harmony with you.
Waking up in 5am will allow you to accomplish so many more things!
As I said, your productiveness in this period of the day is so much higher than let’s say”¦when waking up in 10am! The world seems that has stopped moving, you gain focus and control, you immediately step into action and your productivity is so much greater! By waking up in 5am you will feel enthusiastic and motivated, and you’ll seize the day as perfectly as you can.
Make your competitor’s head spin!
I doubt if even 1% of our population wakes up earlier than 6am. I don’t have any statistics for this but I’m pretty positive about this thing. I actually once asked 212 people that I know when they wake up, and ONLY one person told me that he wakes up in 5.30. Assuming that not all segments were included in this “mini-analysis”, I think that the approximation of less than 1% is fairly accurate. Anyway, even if this number is 5%, that fact is so much powerful if you are willing to use it in your own advantage! There’s no doubt that you’ll be at least 3 times more productive by forming this habit. Whatever you’re doing whether it’s operating your own small business, being a manager in a huge corporation or just being a regular worker, there are so many possibilities you can do by adding extra 2-3 hours in your mornings. Use them for working, studying, meditating ““ anything that will add value into your life! The results that will come in just a few months of doing this will ASTOUND you!
The list really doesn’t end here”¦ However”¦ I think these facts are enough to get you started!
Try not to “zone-out” before going to sleep and watch some stupid program on the TV. Instead, meditate, read your gratitude list or do anything that makes you feel relaxed, peaceful and positive.
Some Rituals for Increasing Your Chances of Waking Up Fresh and Energetic
No TV! If it is so hard for you to get rid of this habit, at least try to turn it off 2 hours before going into bed. I know this will be hard in the beginning, but the rewards are certainly worth it ““ I guarantee it!
No eating! Now I am not suggesting that you shouldn’t have a dinner at all, but this habit can be actually quite powerful. As the famous sentences in the bible say ““ “Eat your breakfast by yourself, share your lunch with a friend, and give your dinner to the enemy!” If you decide to be your own enemy and eat before sleeping ““ do it at least 3 hours before going into bed!
No work! If you still haven’t finished some tasks from that day, it is 100 times better go in bed earlier, to wake up in the morning early and finish them then, instead of doing everything before sleeping. Do not work anything at least 3-4 hours before going into bed. Also, keep your cell phone, your lap top or tablet, your work papers and anything that reminds of work in some other room than the one you sleep in. Working in bed is already scientifically proven to increase your stress and anxiety so why not to eliminate this bad habit in your life?
Finally, here are Some Positive Rituals for Relaxation:
Meditation! It won’t hurt you to meditate for at least 15 min before sleeping. This is so beneficial ““ I run out of words how to describe it! Test it, and see the results!
Taking hot-cold showers can help a lot! This will not only reduce your stress, it will also improve your blood circulation and therefore the functions of all your organs including your brain. Very powerful stuff!
Read a positive book! Read something which inspires you and fills you with hope and enthusiasm.
Put some favorite flowers of etheric oils onto your pillow. For the best ones are eucalyptus, tee-tree oil and lavender. Choose what’s best for you and try it.
Play some relaxing music. Classical or meditative composition will do all the work for you. Choose what you enjoy the most and listen to it half an hour before going into bed.
A Few Last Words”¦
Instead of writing a cliché conclusion, I decided to share a quote from one of my favorite coaches and personal development trainers of all time ““ Earl Nightingale!
It goes like this:
“We are at our very best, and we are happiest, when we are fully engaged in work we enjoy on the journey toward the goal we’ve established for ourselves. It gives meaning to our time off and comfort to our sleep. It makes everything else in life so wonderful, so worthwhile.”Earl Nightingale
What a powerful idea!
Understand this – No matter how early you wake up, no matter how happy and enthused you feel, no matter how positive attitude you have ““ if you don’t have a mission, a purpose, a goal to aim at ““ you’re like a ship without a compass that doesn’t know where it’s going!
So use these tips wisely, but always do it by thinking and working towards a goal! Don’t be a leaf that goes wherever the winds blows ““ take responsibility, discipline yourself, and do the things you’ve always wanted to do!
What is your biggest goal in life? Are you willing to make the effort and invest in it by becoming more productive? Can YOU wake up at 5am every morning and spring into action? Will consider falling asleep in a great mood?
I hope you have answers to these questions.
