The benefits of water
By Steven Aitchison
I go through bouts of drinking loads of water every day and then to drinking little. Until recently I hadn’t really noticed any difference when I was not drinking a lot of water. About a year ago I started paying attention to my body and the way I was feeling when I ate certain foods and I watched what I was drinking and paid attention to what was making me feel good or bad.
As a result I gave up white bread, cut down on sweets, white pasta, stopped drinking Pepsi (a hard one that) and drank a lot more water. This might just be basic dietary advice however due to the results I think it is worth a mention again and again.
1 year ago my weight had plateaud at 14stone 10Ibs, after giving up and cutting down all the above my weight has stabilised at 14stone. I don’t feel bloated all the time, I have a lot more energy, I don’t need naps during the day, my brain energy is a lot higher, concentration levels are very high and my creativity has increased..
I think the main factor in all of this is water. I drink between 1 ““ 2 litres per day and feel the difference for it. One thing to remember is not to drink freezing cold water. Drink water at room temperature. When we drink cold water the body has to work to heat the water up taking vital energy away from the body’s organs. Warm water flushes out the kidneys, by stimulating the glands in the walls of the stomach it prepares the stomach for food, and it helps the bowels to move more easily.
Why water is so beneficial
“¢ Drinking lots of water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat.
“¢ If you eat a lot of salt, drinking plenty water helps flush out the extra sodium from the kidneys.
“¢ Water helps flush out excess fat and waste from the body.
“¢ Some research has shown that drinking plenty of water can reduce the risk of colon cancer by up to 45%
“¢ Water helps flush out waste from the bladder. Your urine should be light and odourless, if it is dark and has a strong odour it could indicate a problem in the bladder or kidneys and water helps this.
“¢ Water, believe it or not, helps reduce water retention. Water retention is your body’s way of storing water if it thinks you are not getting enough, drinking plenty of water reduces this.
“¢ It can help freshen your breath. Dehydration can cause a dry tongue leading to a furry tongue which aids bacteria build up. Plenty water reduces this risk.
I could go on and on about the benefits of water but I think you get the gist of what I am saying. Obviously there will evidence to the contrary but from a personal point of view I would recommend drinking plenty of water. It certainly cannot do any harm
