“Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan.” Tom Landry
Have you ever taken the time to think truly about your life and what you really, want? What would make you happier than anything else in the world? What is it you love so much that you would be willing to spend your nights and days working on it just for it to come to fruition? That which would make you give up your time, energy and money to achieve?
These are a few of the many questions you might have asked yourselves many times, but have you answered truthfully? Do you think you finally have the answers? You might have, but I ask you now ““ if not why?
You are an older, wiser person now. You have been through the ups and downs of life, and yet you still search to find your dream, the dream that has been put on the back burner for years or abandon in frustration. You need to face your fears and go after your dreams.
To get back that which, you have lost or never realized, here are a few questions you need to ask asked yourself and then implement in your life.
What am I prepared to sacrifice?
You have goals and aspirations, but are you prepared to bear the pain, the long suffering, the ups and downs and ins and outs to achieve these goals? If you truly want to reap the benefit of being successful, you must be prepared to bear the cost.
Have I set time to achieve my goals?
It is wonderful to say you want to be a doctor or want to start a business if that is what you want, but WHEN? It is all very good to have an idea in your head and a desire in your heart, but along with all the other sacrifices to achieve your goal you must set a time to complete it. Give yourself a set time and if it doesn’t materialize extend the date but you must hold yourself accountable. To measure your progress you must have a milestone; that is the only way to know you are on the right track and will accomplish your goals. There isn’t time for open-ended plans.
Am I using my time wisely?
You need to be able to manage your time to be productive. Spend more time doing things that are rewarding and less on things that just takes time. Plan a schedule and stick to it. If you find that you aren’t getting things done, get rid of the things that aren’t important so you can spend time with things that are giving you the results you want. It is all about prioritizing. Put things in the order of importance. You have wasted enough time on things that doesn’t matter, change all of that today.
Am I offering my services to others?
To feel accomplished and truly appreciate life and what it has to offer, you have to be willing to offer yourself to others. If you haven’t learned how to serve others, you haven’t truly lived. Success, happiness, and joy cannot be just be pursued. These are things that will come when you start offering yourself to a cause that is greater than you. Get involved with something that you truly believe in and is dear to your heart.
Am I pretending to be somebody am not?
What is your life truly worth to you? Have you been honest with yourself or have you being lying so much that this now has become your truth? Unfortunately, many people have been living a lie for so long that the lie became their truth. Do not become this person. Stop pretending. Let the world know the real you. Don’t be ashamed of who you are. We all have faults and flaws. You do not have it all together at least not yet. You are a work in progress. No one is perfect so do not pretend to be. Show your imperfections and live a free life. You are who you are and no one else.
Am I holding onto the past?
What from your past are you hanging onto? Are you still feeling the brunt of rejections, setbacks, pain and hurt people hurled your way? Let go of all those and do not let them keep you back. Those are in the past and of a younger less experienced you.
The persons who said those things to you then didn’t know the person you would become. They were defining the person they saw not really who you truly were. Replace them with more positive and inspiring things. Things that will make you want to change your life for the better. You are worth more than your past.
Am I hiding something?
What are some of the things about you that your closest friends and families do not know? Allow people close to you to know you. They will love you and respect you for who you are. Do not let your insecurities ruin your life and relationships. We all make mistakes, and so have you. You have learned a great deal and have become a better person. Making mistakes are just a reminder that none of us is perfect.
Is there toxicity in my life?
Rid yourself of all the toxic people in your life. People who do not bring positivity, joy, hope and happiness should not be allowed to take up residency. Keep people around you that will cause you to want to be a better person and will be honest with you, so you are kept on track. Persons who will hold you accountable. You cannot live a positive, fulfilling life if the people around you are negative. You choose the life you want and also your friends. You can choose who stays and who goes.
Do I sometimes go overboard?
You must strike a balance in life. You cannot afford to have wondering eyes and desire to go after everything that seems better. Strike a balance in your life. Enjoy your life as you strive to be the person you want to be. You may not be where you want to be in life as yet, but as you strive to get there enjoy where you are now and what you have. Do not be too hard on yourself. You will get where and what you want but while working on getting there take a moment to enjoy life and what it has to offer.
Do I smile enough?
Smile and be happy about everything and anything you want. Life is good if you look at it from a positive standpoint. Smile at the challenges you have overcome and how awesome it is that you are still standing. Choose to be happy in spite of everything that is going on. Train your mind to be positive and you in turn will do things that are more helpful and beneficial to your life.
You are not where you want to be in life as yet, but you have come a long way. Enjoy the life you presently have.
Let’s face it, if we were to choose the life we wanted, most of us would not choose the ones we currently have. Life is not easy, and no one said it would be but since many times we have no control over what life throws our way, let’s be happy and do the best that we can to make it the best life possible.
You might not be able to control everything that happens in your life, but you can choose to be happy, joyful and grateful for the life you have been given. Choose to be happy today.
