5 Simple Steps To Kick Start Your Day

Sharing is caring!

The 6 am alarm just went off and you reach over to smash the clock. It can't possibly be 6 am already is it? You didn't get to bed until very late again last night and had yet another rest less sleep. It seems to be a vicious cycle these days. Stressed out days, too much work, long days, never ending errands and family demands and by the time you get to bed you are a bundle of nerves and anxiety. Is there a possible end to this cycle?

There is indeed. I'll give you 5 tips on how to jump start your day but you do need to practice a couple of simple steps before bed too! First and foremost, try to get to bed earlier so you have a little bit more unwinding time. Most of us don't take the time to calm our minds down and then wonder why we can't sleep. Our brain isn't ready.

A good foot rub is very calming and soothing, with tons of reflexology perks.   If you have someone to do it for you, that's great, if not, you can certainly do it yourself with good results. Meditation is also very good for calming the mind to get it ready for bed. If you haven't meditated before, you can start small and slow.

These little steps will certainly help you fall asleep faster and ensure you stay asleep and get a good night's rest. So what about the morning? How do we spring out of bed all bright eyed and bushy tailed?

1. Be grateful.

As soon as you wake up say thank you for another glorious day. Smile if you can, don't if it's too much too soon, but express gratitude for being able to open your eyes and see things. Say thank you for another day of life. Feel gratitude in your heart and be happy (insert smile here)

2. Change your alarm.

Most of us have annoying horrible sounds on our clocks. If you are using a mobile device, some of them have wonderful sounds. Pick one. Pick a calming enjoyable one. It won't jar your brain as soon as you open your eyes and you won't be as agitated. Put your alarm far away too so you have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. Now that you're up …… .

3. Something good is going to happen.

Think that as soon as you are awake enough to function. I mean really think it and imagine that some really awesome stuff is heading your way. Get really excited about it. It could be a work thing or a love thing, any thing. You don't and won't know. But something super cool is coming your way. Believe that.

4. Drink water.

Room temperature is best and if you can squeeze some lemon in there, that's even better. Your body is completely dehydrated from sleeping for 6-8 hours with out taking in any liquids. It needs to be rehydrated. Give it water. Aim for 2 glasses. This may seem hard to do and at first it's kind of tricky, especially for coffee drinkers but once you get used to it, it will be easier and you'll miss it if you skip a day.

5. Hug somebody.

If you live in a house with other family members or even roommates, go hug one of them every morning. If you live alone, hug yourself. Yes, I said it and yes you can do it with almost the same effect. It sure will feel good regardless. Hugging is very therapeutic and naturally makes us feel loved and happy. Who wouldn't want a hug first thing in the morning? If you're not into hugging yourself, try doing some mirror self talk. Good morning _______ (your name). I love you and you're awesome. It may make you giggle but it will certainly kick start your day.
