Somewhere in our life we all have to say good bye to our old place and make way to the new one. It could be college, university or a new job even. Its always exciting to know you are going a level up but at the same time there is always a fear in our head, what if we won't fit in?
This question always scared me and I kept thinking how would I get settled? How will I be able to make new friends? What if they don't think I am cool enough for the place?
So here a list of 6 steps you must take in getting able to settle down nicely without embarrassing yourself
1- Know your place:
The first and most important step to do before your first day is to get to know your place. Surf the internet, go through their website, maps and departments to create a mind map of the place so you don't spent the first day roaming around confused about what is where. Not only it will save time but also help prevent making a fool of you by getting false directions from seniors/colleagues.
2- Know your people:
The one thing you won't find on the internet is about how exactly are the people at the new place like? How's the atmosphere? Try to get in touch with someone who has been there before ask them about their experience. That person can give you the real picture of the place and its people and its very necessary to get to know about the atmosphere beforehand so you can mentally prepare yourself according to that environment.
3- The first interaction:
So here comes the big day! Here you are and they are right when they say first impression matters the most so stay cool and confident because there is nothing to be afraid of, they are humans too!
When comes the time to introduce yourself keep it short simple but real. According to zighlar the best intro is when you start off with a joke that will help the people laugh and get relaxed and then say something inspirational because it's scientifically proved that after laughing your brain pays more attention so you got their attention so take advantage of that.
4- Making Friends:
Always keep a welcoming behavior when you are at a new place so people can feel comfortable while interacting with you. Keep a smile on your face and try to participate in activities as much as you can also try to keep in touch with what's happening on social media because it is always a good topic to start a conversation on.
5- Flexibility:
This is the most useful feature a person can posses because when you make a new beginning, things don't usually go the way they use to be in your past comfort zone. It's a new place so there are new rules and regulations and trends in which you'll have to de shape yourself for that you will have to develop flexibility because its necessary to survive. According to Shams of Tabrez
"Instead of resisting to changes, surrender. Let life be with you, not against you. If you think "˜My life will be upside down' don't worry. How do you know down is not better than upside?"
6- Patience:
According to Benjamin Franklin
"He that can have patience can have what he will."
Last but one of the key ingredients to success is patience. Starting is always difficult there will be many situations you want to blow up but if instead you have to show patience then you will be able to get through many tough situations so keep calm and carry on!
So are you ready to begin again?
