Here’s the big problem when it comes to happiness: We’re chasing it.
We all think that we’ve to do this, or get that in order to be happy.
That… rarely ever works.
That is why people are unhappy despite working so hard their entire lives. They realize that, after a long while, getting what they want doesn’t make them happy at all.
So let’s flip it over.
And I hope reading that actually makes you happy because you wouldn’t have to do anything!
1) Stop procrastinating
Procrastinating and putting off work isn’t just about productivity. It has to do a lot with your happiness.
Simply put: Delay your work and you will be unhappy.
Why? Because you won’t get to feel the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that comes from doing the actual work.
When you procrastinate and think that you get to relax, you’re wrong. You’d only feel half-hearted and lazy, while the thought of work is gnawing at the back of your head.
So stop procrastinating. Push yourself to do the work already. Get that satisfaction.
2) Stop hanging out with toxic people
Who you surround yourself with largely impacts your mood, spirit and happiness.
Toxic people only aim to bring you down and they will never want the best out of you.
So this is the first thing you need to do: Drop them altogether. Just go away. Stop hanging out with them.
Learn to be by your own and pretty soon, the right people will be attracted to you.
3) Stop falling in love with the wrong people
Perhaps this is a bit of a controversial point, but hear me out.
Time and time again, I’d always hear about people complain that they’re unhappy in their relationships because they keep ending up with the wrong person. They talk as if it can’t be helped because they followed their heart, or emotions.
And I think that’s just an excuse.
Look, we as humans may be emotional creatures, but we also have a brain. We have common sense. So use your head!
If you don’t want to end up with the wrong type of person, then stop going to the same place to meet them or just remain friends when they exhibit signs that remind you of your failed relationships.
4) Stop doing the same thing over and over
If you want different results, then do something different already.
As Einstein puts it, “Insanity is when you do the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
So if you know that you’re unhappy, then examine what you’re doing today. Cut it out already. Try something new.
5) Stop blaming everything or everyone else
I’ll be blunt here.
It’s your fault. You’re 100% responsible for how you feel.
I don’t care if the weather turned bad and that it started pouring on you, or that some stranger bumped into you and didn’t apologize.
You can’t blame them. Yet, from this, know that nothing or no one can take away your power of being in charge of how you feel.
It’s all perspective. Choose the happy one. So stop playing the victim already!
6) Stop categorizing yourself under negative labels
If you feel angry a lot, it doesn’t mean that you’re monster.
If you feel sad a lot, it doesn’t mean you’re a weakling.
If somebody wasn’t nice to you, it doesn’t mean you’re a pushover.
See where I’m going with this? It’s very easy to give yourself labels. And it all goes downhill from there.
Get rid of these labels. Be free. Just do you and always remember that you can be better!
7) Stop harping on it
Whatever or whoever that made you upset, let it go.
Stop harping it on it. It’s the past already. It can’t be changed no matter how you feel.
8) Stop letting the world get to you
The state of the world is a pretty negative one. Read the news everyday and you’d know already.
It’s pretty easy to feel down because of that, but look, the negative state of the world is not your problem. What other people do with their lives ultimately has nothing to do with you. They too, have to learn that they’re responsible for how they feel.
If you want to make the world a better place, by all means, simply be nice and help others when you can. Other than that, lead your own life and just be happy.
9) Stop trying so hard to be happy
You know, just relax ok? Just chill. Just be cool.
You can’t chase happiness. Remember that.
Happiness needs to come naturally. If you work so hard to be happy, you are only going to end up feeling tired.
So stop trying so hard. You’ve got to let it be natural!
10) Stop thinking that you aren’t allowed to have fun
Life isn’t all work and no play.
Just have some fun already! You know that you’re allowed to right?
