Mind Alchemy Day 11

Welcome to Day 11 of Mind Alchemy.

Today we are following up on yesterday’s relaxation theme, as I think it is that important. However rather than just give you a written guide on how to relax, I’d like to take you on a journey, whilst at the same time you are re-affirming your outcomes and sending them out into the world. This is by way of a guided visualization.

Guided visualization

A guided visualization, for anyone who has never tried it, is someone guiding you through a scene in your mind to facilitate change in your thoughts.

This guided visualization is one that I have used in the past with readers of CYT, and it’s one which is particularly powerful in eliciting strong emotions.

Don’t get too caught up with the language in this visualization. Sending out an intention to the universe is another way of saying, sending a thought of your outcome to your subconscious mind. When you do this you are instilling a feeling of certainty about something you want in your life. It’s a way to keep you focussed on what you want so you can take more action towards making it happen.

Todays Exercise

Download the guided visualization or listen to it here on the computer by pressing the play button.

Download Guided visualization here right click , and click save as.

Play Guided visualization here

Download audio file (MindAlchemyGMed1.mp3)

This is something you can use everyday, or find other relaxation music, or guided visualizations to listen to. Make it a part of your daily ritual as part of your relaxation daily routine, which we discussed yesterday.

The music in this is taken from the amazing album ‘Apollo’ from the genius Brian Eno. The two tracks used are called ‘Deep Blue day’ and ‘An Ending Ascent.’

As ever it would be great to discuss how you felt after listening to this. So share your thoughts in the comments below.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow we will be looking at letting go to get what you want in life. Until tomorrow my fellow Mind Alchemists……..

Action follows a thought…

This course is about taking action, and to become pro active in changing your life. Take time to do this exercise and really think about it throughout the day. You don’t need to wait until tomorrow to take steps to improve your ‘Wheel of Life’, but with the support and encouragement from all the members we can help each other and support each other, but ultimately ‘you have to bring something to the table!’

Your thoughts

As always it’s good to talk about your experiences and share it with the rest of the members of the course, so let us know how this exercise went for you and if you gained any insights or had any revelations about yourself or your life.

You can share your thoughts at Mind Alchemy Facebook Group

You can Tweet using the hashtag #MindAlchemy

Or of course you can leave a comment below.

I’ll bet that many of us are starting the New Year with plans and a new sense of purpose for 2010. That’s great, and the New-year, New-start philosophy can provide a welcome breath of fresh air, especially if 2009 has been a bit of a slog.

If you compare Jan 1st 2010 to booting up your computer, wouldn’t it be great to have some new powerful programs to run on start-up? I’m sure you’ve already made some personal development purchases or are planning too.

But if setting new intentions is like the beginning of an installation process you’ll ALSO need to install the new internal resources to support the programs. Otherwise you might be working with an operating system that needs a processor/version upgrade in order to run your new program properly. (If you like new PC games and you have an older computer – you’ll know what I mean!)

Upgrades Needed

Well, I know some of you reading will already be planning to install some new beliefs if you need them. And that may well be enough. You can find plenty of NLP installation techniques around the net or in NLP books.

However, for some of us, even when we do install new beliefs this doesn’t mean the .exe (execute file) gets loaded along with them. What do I mean?

Learned Tendency

Well, each person has a learned tendency (on a continuum) towards action or inaction when they receive new information. In Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) these processing tendencies are metaphorically referred to as meta-programs and this one listed as Somatic Response in Figuring out People refers to how excited the motor-cortex gets and how much that excitement gets you to DO.

Basically, at one end of the scale you have extreme pro-activity, represented by the person that would decide to RUN to Macdonald’s if they suddenly felt the urge or would want to start exercising RIGHT NOW if they got inspired to get fit.

At the other end you have the inactive meta-program represented by the coach potato, the person who finds it difficult to get excited about anything nor act upon it.

The difference may well lie in the person’s reaction to incoming information and our expectations of what information is for.

Memory Knowledge

To me, part of the problem is that we live in an age when you can be (on the surface of it) be considered to ‘know’ something if you can recite facts and information. There is a certain value in ‘being an intellectual’.

However, this type of ‘knowing’ falls apart when you start to apply it to practical things. For any budding guitarist who has ever muttered “I can play it better than that” and then been asked to prove it, the doing soon shows how much you ‘know’. You can either play that riff or you can’t…!

So the .exe file referred to above is your tendency to ‘execute’ or act upon the things you need to do. And some of us have corrupted .exe files where we know a heck of a lot but we don’t DO much. So we get frustrated. And read some more.

Training Our Minds

The good news is that we can force and train our minds to re-open the route between our mind and our bodies. We can repave the road to from idea to implementation.

After all, you mentally conceived of how to ride a bike before you could actually peddle down the street, right? Every time you fell off you still knew how it ‘should’ on that wonderful day when you could ride and stay on!

I’ll bet your fingers know how to type but how many of you actually can recite the entire QWERTY keyboard? It’s like your mind has passed into your muscles (fingertips).

Imagine a time when you highest values showed up in your eyes, your movements, your breathing. When just the thought of doing something towards your future made your physical body tingle and your soul ring with joy!

How Does The process Take Place

Think about what happens when you jump away from an oncoming car: your mind creates a representation so powerful that it translates it into energy and instructions to your body – and you react. At that time the feelings are so strong that you could not stay there and ponder your next action even if you wanted too!

As you were learning to cycle you felt the motivation of ‘wanting’ to ride, and you sent instructions to your body to do the movements. Then with each attempt you calibrated what worked, and didn’t work, and did it again. It took time but with repetition and feedback, you mastered it.

Whether you realised it or not, you asked yourself:

What do I understand? What are the principles of riding? (Balance, direction, observation, pedal)

What do I believe? (That you could ride).

What do I decide? (That you were going to do what it took to learn to ride.)

What emotions do I feel? (Excitement, anticipation etc)

What is one action I could take to put this understanding, belief, decision and emotions into practice? (balance, push off, steer)

And you did all of this with the energy and enthusiasm necessary to push the idea into the very fibre of your muscles, mind and being. The process was extended over time (maybe months) but you did it. Imagine if that process could be compacted into a few minutes.

Above are the essential steps of the process that can be used to turn ANY great idea or principle into a felt conviction. As the full version is longer, you can get the basic outline plus notes for free by signing up to my mailing list at www.overcomingprocrastination.co.uk

The process clears out blockages between thinking and doing and creates a streamlined process for becoming a powerful implementer. I won’t lie to you, it does take perseverance to get it working and Hall says it can take a few minutes to an hour for a person to ‘get it’ the first time but after that it begins to become a habit. And the road becomes an implementation super highway!

Bottom Line

The bottom line is that our personal development books are fantastic and full of excellent principles – which we often don’t ‘feel’ strongly motivated to implement.

But the more deeply you install an idea the more likely it is to stay with you in the times you need it. There is a difference between a passing thought and a felt conviction. We encourage each other to ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ but we also need to ‘feel the principle and do it anyway’.

When a valued idea like “wealth is built by saving 10% of my income” becomes a felt conviction in your gut, you’ll more easily act upon it. Someone once said “people cannot but move in the direction of their values.”

Once you get the habit of installing great ideas you can start doing what I call “ a rolling map update” whereby you are doing what Tony Robbins calls CANI – constant and never-ending improvement.

And that can’t be bad for a great 2010.

Whether you believe in the law of attraction or not it is still useful to look at it and apply some of the principles and experiment with them.

I have used the principles of the law of attraction on a daily basis and do see a huge difference in my life. However I have noticed a few things along the way which hinder my progress. When you know these five forgotten rules you can speed up the power of your intentions.

The five forgotten rules

The more you use it the more it works – A few people have said to me that the LOA doesn’t work for them. when asked what they are doing they inevitably tell me they have tried the ‘visualization thing’ for a few days and it doesn’t work for them. I have asked them how long would they play the lottery before expecting to win anything, some said a lifetime, some said a few years, and various other answers were offered. LOA is akin to the lottery and it’s rules. First of all you have to buy a ticket before you can win it. Secondly you have to buy a ticket every week to increase your chances, however slim, of winning anything. So it is with LOA: You have to practice it everyday to gain anything from it. Unlike the lottery you always win, whether it be attracting all your goals, decreasing your stress levels through visualization, increasing you mental abilities through visualization, meeting new people along the path to your goals, you always win.

Juice your intentions up with emotion – I have discovered that if I simply state an intention and visualize it and forget about it, it doesn’t come to me. If I visualize it and give it real emotions and do this everyday my goals will happen. Giving your intentions emotions are giving them energy, when you create the energy you have momentum, when you have momentum you create a power, when you have the power you are listened to, when you are listened to you will achieve your goals. This is perhaps the biggest single barrier to not achieving your desires. You have to give your desires and visualizations energy and to create the enrgy put some emotion into it.

Give out more than you take – I believe that LOA is about balance in all it’s forms. If you achieve your financial goals give some back to charity or the community or offer your services free. If you achieve you goal of finding your perfect partner show gratitude by treating your partner and their family the right way. If you achieve your goal of passing your university exams make sure you use the degree wisely.

Show gratitude – The reason you are here today, reading this article, is that you believed you would wake up today safe and well. A lot of people don’t have that luxury. We all get mixed up in our own worlds, and we all take our world for granted. Why not take five minutes a day to show we are grateful for the world we have.

Only tell people about your success when it has been completed – This is a strange phenomenon I have noticed with the LOA. For example I had a goal to make a success of affiliate marketing and I was doing great until I started telling people about it. I wrote a post on it, I told some friends and family and almost overnight the sales stopped. And this has happened a lot in my life.I have thought about this a lot and I have come up with a reason for this:When you have an intention you work toward it and keep working until it is achieved. When you are in the middle of working toward it and you tell people about it’s current success you mind has decided you have reached your goal and therefore the energy of the intention disappears.Taking the affiliate marketing example. I worked for months studying affiliate marketing, tried a few things and failed a few times. Then I finally had some success and was making money. At this point I hadn’t told anybody about it and had a lot of drive and energy to continue making it a success. However as soon as I told someone about it my drive dropped a little, my mind energy was a little depleted with the goal and the success stopped overnight. It’s because the mind energy for that goal has lost it’s power as it already thinks you have achieved your goal as you are telling everyone how much a success you are.

So, if you have a goal of getting £5000, don’t tell anybody about it until you have the £5000. Don’t tell them you are nearly there with £3000. read the ‘Silent Power’ to further explain this.

DIGG, Stumble, Propeller, and Reddit readers are influencing the world around us simply by clicking on a button and making stories the front page of their respective sites. Could the same readers affect Global Warming?

There have been hundreds of experiments showing that there is evidence that your thoughts affect the world around you. In her latest book, ‘The Intention Experiment’ Lynne McTaggart shows that the affect of intention could have a dramatic affect on our surroundings, including the weather.

After reading the book, I got to thinking about how we could change our thoughts to affect our own lives and global warming. DIGG, Stumble, Propel or Redditers could possibly affect global weather simply by intending to change it. Could it be that all the media hype about global warming has made it worse? I believe it could. Nobody nowadays does not know the terms ‘carbon footprint’ ‘global warming’ ‘ozone layer’ etc. Now it is time to change this and turn it around and DIGG, Stumble, Propel or Reddit readers could be the very people to do this.

Here are five ways DIGG, Stumble, Propel or Reddit readers could reverse Global Warming.

Try not to automatically DIGG, Stumble, Propel or Reddit the stories that say we are all doomed due to global warming. The fact is there is very little evidence to back it up.

DIGG, Stumble, Propel or Reddit stories that have real evidence to the contrary will bring these stories to the masses and let people make their own minds up, instead of being sheep and jumping on the bandwagon.

DIGG, Stumble, Propel or Reddit stories that back up real evidence that our thoughts can affect the world around us. This way more and more people get interested and start their own experiments instead of debunking it.

Start a DIGG, Stumble, Propel or Reddit group to try your own experiments about intention and try out various experiments of your own.

DIGG, Stumble, Propel or Reddit stories that have contrary evidence to ‘intention manifestation’, this way more and more people can read both sides of the story and make their own mind up.

Part 2 – Attracting your ideal partner

This is the second in a series of six attracting articles.

Okay, you have sown your wild oats, done the single life, bought the t-shirt in fact you bought the whole outfit. There comes a thought in the back of your mind, a slow burning thought that gathers momentum: ‘I think it’s time to settle down’. You might have been thinking it for a while and it’s finally came to a head. You are not enjoying all those nights out as much, you’d rather sit in with a good book or a decent film, and you look at couples in love and envy them. This is the little ‘settle down’ voice.

The settle down voice

This is not a sudden voice in your head, it is a gradual one and one that is hard to ignore. It points out couples who are in love, it points out cute little babies in prams, it points out how lonely you are in bed (even if there is someone lying next to you), it makes you aware of romantic comedies’, in fact everything that involves loving couples and it will show you.

Yes, you try to ignore this little voice but it gets louder and louder and then you know it’s time to listen and the little voice has convinced you that you want a partner. To settle down with.

However, the little voice buggers off as soon as you start looking for your ideal partner. You look everywhere; in the workplace, in the pubs and clubs, you look at passers by in the street, and you still don’t find them. What do you do to find your perfect partner?

Finding the perfect man or woman

First things first; there is no perfect man or woman. The quicker you realise this the better. However, there is such a thing as the perfect man or woman for you, which is a big difference.

Many people searching for their ideal partner assign certain characteristics their partner must have and if they don’t have all of them then they are not the right person for the job. This is where the law of attraction stops working for you.

The 5 steps to finding your ideal partner

You have to know the type of person you want before you can meet them. If you don’t know the type of partner you want, how are you going to recognise them? The first thing to do is assign the attributes you admire in a partner. Think of all the people you know and take some of the attributes you like and write them all down.

Once you have written down all the attributes you like have an image in you head of your partner, their size, their rough looks, their personality, their sense of humour. Everything you want in you partner, try and visualize them and how of the attributes you have written down play out in different scenarios e.g. how do they act in front of your friends, how do they treat you when you are out to dinner, how they act when they are with their friends.

Let go of the thought of ever meeting your ideal partner. This may sound like a contradiction but it is very important. I am not saying stop visualizing them, as this is important, but let go of the outcome. By letting go of the outcome, you step back and trust another force to act on your behalf.

This is how I met my wife. I had been looking for the ideal partner for years and had visualised her, and her attributes. I remember the day I let go of the outcome. It was July 19th 2002. I used to look out for her everywhere, and was disappointed when she had not met me yet. I was walking along Argyle Street in Glasgow and literally said to myself I am stopping looking for her, I still had her image in my head, but I let go and stopped looking for her. That night, I met her at a party I had decided to go to at the last minute. I have now been married for 2 and half years and I love her more than ever and our two children.

Trust that you will meet them. You will meet them; it might take time, but trust that it will happen. When you trust it will happen you will not be as lonely. Knowing that something will happen is a relief, there is no pressure and you can go about your normal daily routine happy in the knowledge that there are a few cupids looking out for you.

Look out for hidden messages. Although you have to trust that, your partner will appear you still need to look out for hidden messages in other areas of your life. If you get a strong sense that you should attend a party, even though you can’t be bothered, go to it. If you get a strong urge to go into town early one morning, go. If you feel a strong urge for a coffee and you see a starbucks, go buy a coffee. You ideal partner is waiting for as also. I wish you well and hope you meet your partner soon.

Part 1 – Attracting more money into your life

This is the first in a series of six ‘attracting’ articles.

Most people want more money in their lives, I know I do. Why do you really want it? That might sound a simple enough question but it is surprising the number of people who do not know why they want more money.

To attract more money it is better to have a goal in mind, know exactly what you want. It’s like someone asking you what job you want to do; you wouldn’t say ‘I don’t know I just want a job, any job’.

Know how much money you want and know why you want it.

Tuning in to the correct mindset

I have been practicing the attracting of money for over 1 year now. I have not had the millions rolling in but I now reckon I can pay off my mortgage in around 5 years thanks to extra money coming in. I originally aimed to pay off the mortgage in 1 year and become a professional blogger. That was 6 months ago, I have not reached anywhere near paying off the mortgage but I am a lot closer to my goal. I started with wanting to pay off £75,000 and am now at about £65,000, £10,000 within 1 year is fantastic compared to where I used to be a few years ago.

I believe the reason I have not reached the full target yet is my deep-seated belief that I might not get there, or the fear of success. Strange as it may sound I have still not fully engaged in the mindset of being able to pay off my mortgage, it still sounds too good to be true. However, every day I see the results of changing my mindset towards money and I am seeing the results.

To attract more money in your life you have to chip away at the deep-seated belief that it is not possible. Once the chips come off, more money will come. It’s like going for a job. Have you ever gone for a job thinking I’ll never get this job and lo and behold, you didn’t get it? Conversely have you ever gone for a job very confident thinking this is the perfect job for me, and lo and behold, you got the job. I believe this is your energy getting into the rhythm.

Imagine there are 100 different radio stations all with different life stations; you have to tune to a different frequency for each life station, one for attracting money, one for attracting your ideal partner, one for your perfect job and so on. So it is with life, you have to tune to the correct frequency to attract the things you want in life.

How to tune in to the money life station

There is a great way to tune into the money life station, one of only many.

To tune in, use your imagination and have fun with this one.

Send a sales invoice to the universe

Every day for 1 month, I would like you to send an invoice to the universe. Download this excel spreadsheet, I have pre filled it in with 1 item to show you what to do, what you have to do is fill your name at the top, your name and address, date, invoice number, etc.

On the first day, you have $1000, on the second day you have $2000, on the third day you have $3000 until at the end of day 30 or 31 you will have $30,000 or $31,000 to spend.

You can have as many items as you want for that day as long as it totals the amount for that particular day e.g. if you are on day 5 you have to pick items totalling $5000. It’s also a case of use it or lose it, if you don’t use the full amount for that day you lose it, you can’t carry it over to the next day.

When you are filling in the items, be as specific as possible, for example if it’s a TV you want fill in the model number, or a computer, fill in the exact make and model.

When you have filled it in either print it out and put it away in a folder or put it in a folder on your desktop.

How sending an invoice to the universe helps

This helps on many levels.

Exercising your imagination: this exercise will force you to use your imagination to come up with new items every day. It’s not as easy as you might think.

Sets up your intention: This will help you to send out the intention that you are ready for money to enter your life and will do it on a regular basis reinforcing the intentions every day.

Whether you believe it or not your vibrations will begin to match your intentions and money will start to come into your life. Don’t give up on this, try it for the full 30 days.

Spend the money on yourself at least 10 of the 30 days. I know many people will have immediately thought I will add my son’s new bike to the list, or my daughter’s new laptop to the list. Think about yourself as well; spend at least 10 of the 30 days spending money on yourself. All the other days you can spend on anything you want including money for your family and friends.

Believing you deserve money

Doing this exercise for 30 days helps to change your belief that you do not deserve money. This can be the block that many people have in their lives. They have a deep-seated belief that they somehow do not deserve money in their lives and when they get it, they feel guilty. I sometimes still feel guilty about spending money on a new computer, or new clothes, or anything for myself but it is passing.

There is enough for everyone in the world should they want it. You cannot change everybody in the world, so for the moment be content to change yourself and your family and then work on others when you have yourself sorted out. You cannot help and change others beliefs about money unless you have sorted yourself out first.

You deserve everything you want from the world, change your mindset toward money and you will receive it.

This exercise is good fun and exercises your imagination, and helps you to reinforce your money mindset.

Let me know if you have any stories with this and if it works for you.

Happy spending.

Read all the ‘Attracting’ series:

I was speaking with one of my colleagues from work the other day. She was talking about the fact that she was not good at standing up for herself and she hated confrontation. I asked her if this bothered her and she advised it bothered her quite a bit and she wished she could have more guts and stand up for herself. I then asked if she really wanted to change this aspect of herself, because if she stood up for herself more it would literally change her life. She gave me a strange look and asked what I meant. I asked her to imagine standing up to all the people she had wanted to in the past and how she would be a different person now. She looked at me and was thinking about what I had said. She then said it didn’t matter as she has always been like that and shied away from confrontational situations. I advised her the best thing she could do was to try to involve herself more in confrontational situations. You could imagine the even stranger look I received.

Walking into the wind

In everybody’s lives, we all build up strength by resisting something. Think about it for a moment. If you want to build up your body strength, you fight against weights to make your muscles bigger and stronger. If you want to be aerobically fit, you fight against machines to make your lungs stronger. If you want to become smarter you fight yourself to study and study some more.

Anything we want more of we have to build up resistance to it.

It’s just like out body fighting a cold it has to build up its immune system response to fight the cold.

Making use of this

When I suggested to my colleague that she should involve herself more in confrontational situations, I meant just that. If she did not walk away from these situations she would pretty soon become comfortable in them and then learn to stand up for herself more. You can also do this with various aspects of your life.

To be more courageous put yourself in more courageous situations.

To be able to stand up for yourself more put yourself in situations where you will have to stand up for yourself more. This way you build up a resistance to the stress you may feel in these situations.

To be a better speaker, put yourself in situations where you will have to speak more.

Your life

This is your life, if you don’t like something about it change it, don’t talk about it, don’t bitch about it, don’t think about it just change it.

This post will change your life forever and it will change it within the space of two minutes. What you will read is roughly 700 words and 700 words later you will be a changed person.

Some of you may not get it, some of you may not be ready for it, some of you will laugh because it was so easy and some of you will be angry with me.

You have everything you could possibly need and it’s all inside you, inside your mind, inside your body and inside your heart. All you need to do is realise it. The question is how do you realise it, how do you make it happen?

This post will show you all of this and more and you will look at life in a different light.

I would like to tell you a story first before I go on and show you the answers to life.

I have grown up questioning everything in my life and never really finding answers. I tried to block the questions out with pretending to enjoy life by drinking, taking some drugs, sleeping around, basically everything I could to block out big questions. Questions which would be answered later were not answered earlier because I was not ready.

Teachers came in and out of my life, some fleetingly, some stayed a while and others will be in my life forever.

The very fact that you are reading this blog tells me you too are looking for answers. What are your questions? Are you asking the right questions? How do you know what the right questions are? As you are looking for the answers you are more likely than most to find the right questions and the right answers.

Bear with me, I know you might want to get to the answers I promised, it’s worth it.

The books you read on personal development, the blogs you read, the people you listen to in the hope of finding the answers all help on your way to discovering yourself. Having said this you will not find it in any one book, or any one blog or any one person, it is a cumulative effect. Know this as the truth, you cannot find the answers in one book however it does not stop us looking for that book that will tell us everything.

How are you feeling right now at the prospect of someone telling you they have all the answers? Excited, anxious or are you thinking come on hurry up and get on with it.

What makes us excited in life? Is it the thought of attaining our desires and knowing that we will be happy once we have realised our dreams and desires. For two minutes you have read this post and hopefully been excited at the prospect of someone telling you something that may help you in life.

The answer to everything you ever wanted in life is:

The journey is what excites us and keeps us happy, the realised desire can be a let down.

That’s it, that’s the answer to keeping you happy in life. As you were reading this some of you might have been excited at the prospect of learning something about your life, for two minutes you were excited. It was in those two minutes that you were searching for meaning, it was in those two minutes you forgot yourself and your troubles, it was in the journey of hope that everything seemed possible. It’s the journey that keeps us going, it’s the journey that will keep you happy.

If you keep the journey in mind and not the outcome you will be a happier person.
