Following the success of my first getting more traffic from Stumbleupon post ‘Stumbleupon strategy – A review a day send traffic your way’ I thought I would produce a video on another Stumbleupon trick I use to position myself better in the Stumbleupon rankings.

This tip is all about giving new content for Stumbleupon i.e. nobody has stumbled the post before so you are going to be the first. This is great in a number of ways in that:

  1. You are providing new content for stumblepon
  2. As you are the first to Stumble the post it is your picture which will be seen when people add comments .
  3. When Stumblers start to see you are providing good content they will start to review your SU blog.
  4. The more reviews you have the higher up in ranking you go, so your Stumbles will have more weighting than a newbie.
  5. People will also add you to their friend list in Stumbleupon, the more friends you have the more weighting you will have.
  6. If your Stumble becomes a top pick your profile will be seen by a lot more people.

This is the first video I have produced for the blog and I hope you like it. I welcome any feedback and comments you have.

This is really good, I’ve read quite a bit about StumbleUpon in the past, however I hadn’t considered some of the benefits that you’d highlighted here – particularly your photo exposure!

Looking forward to reading your report! Thanks!

great post. I occasionally stumble my own posts, but am extremely nervous about it. I think it may be a violation of SU’s TOS bot of course, I always hit “i agree” before i read the terms so I’m not sure. That being said, having posts on stumbleupon is the best way to increase your blog’s exposure. Actually, maybe not the best…but definitely the fastest. I can see the value in joining forums and participating in blog carnivals, but that strategy takes a long time unless you are extremely social. For people like me, who are gradually increasing contact with fellow bloggers, stumbleupon is a great resource!

    Hey Steve. Great Video!
I’m a huge fan of StumbleUpon!
You may have covered this but why is it that when you vote on a page using StumbleUpon sometimes the review panel pops up automatically and other times you have to click on the ‘reviews cloud’ to leave your review.

  6. thanks for the comments on this. the video is a bit fuzzy, something I am working on with other videos.

Hi Mike, when you have written your post you can send it to your friends and ask them to stumble it. This way you are not Stumbling it yourself, however SU don’t mind you stumbling your own posts.

Hi Craig, the panel pops up when the page you are stumbling has not been stumbled already, which means you are the first to stumble and review it. when a page has been stumbled you would then have to use the review cloud to review it. It’s better if you get fresh content i.e. pages which have not been stumbled before, this helps with your SU rankings. hope that helps.

This is a very good tip. A never thought of getting traffic like this. all thew while I’ve been using “thumb exchange with a group” or “waiting for stumble from others”. Your generous sharing helps! Thanks!

  9. Glenn (naples) thanks for your comments on this, I am hoping to do some more videos on SU in a report due out next month.

Hi Alex, nice to see you back here, I appreciate your comments on this. I don’t participate in thumb exchanges, if I am being honest i haven’t found a good way to do it as the logistics seem to hinder the process.

  11. A great video indeed!

  12. Tee says:

I’ve read a few sites suggesting that people stumble their own posts/pages, just to get the ball rolling. Are you certain that’s not against the TOS?

Some days it can be hard to find new pages to stumble. What are your best hints and tips?

  15. Hi Diane

Best tip I can give you here is by subscribing to lots of your favourite blogs and adding them to Google reader. You can check Google reader often and when a good post comes up, you can be the first to stumble it. This is a great tip for increasing your exposure as well.

    Hope this helps.

  16. I have an amazing tip and trick for you, that works like magic. It actually is about DIGG, not stumble.

Steve – Not bad of a video for the first time. That wait time for the SU dialog to get dismissed was a bit on the negative side. You can use Camtasia’s trim feature to trim out the idle times etc. All in all, a great video!

  27. Great Video!
I’m a huge fan of StumbleUpon!
    thanks
