I would definitely pay someone to do this for me every night but it’s possible for you to do it to yourself. We are always dog-tired by the time we are ready for bed and the last thing we think about is self-care, but massaging your feet at night has some brilliant and great benefits. If you’ve ever had a reflexology treatment you will totally get this. There are many reflex points on your feet, toes and ankles to help us deal with health issues, physical and emotional. It’s fairly easy to find a chart on the internet to print off and use for future references. Here are a few reasons why you should do this every day. Before bed is best. Grab some nice massage oil, coconut or olive oil.  All will work fine too.

In fact, any form of massage would certainly benefit you if you have trouble sleeping but the foot knows. The gentle massaging action relaxes t he nerves, which in turn, relaxes you. Sweet dreams.

2. Helps with circulation.

We spend all day in shoes, tight ones, running shoes, high heels, whichever shoe you wear and your feet are screaming for some love. A 10-15 minute foot massage at the end of the day will bring your feet back to life and get the blood moving in your lower limbs. This will be especially good for any one suffering from diabetes.

3. Need to turn up the romance?

Grab some massage oil and away you go. No thing like a good foot rub to get the sparks flying again. It can be very sensual and stimulating provided you are doing it for that reason. Start at the feet for 10 minutes and away you go. Who can say no to that?

4. Headache and migraine sufferers rejoice.

Studies have shown that massaging the reflex points on your feet that facilitate relief from pain is very effective in the long term as well. Find the reflex chart and massage these points for up to 20 minutes a day and watch t he results.

5. Helps with depression and anxiety.

It’s no secret that any kind of massage is very relaxing but when you massage certain points on your foot you can also help with sadness and any other emotion based issues you might be dealing with. Remember to do it daily if you suffer from these conditions. It may not take away the problem 100% but it will surely help to alleviate some of the sadness. Even temporary relief is better than none.

6. Restless leg syndrome can be controlled.

Those who suffer with this know the frustration you feel laying in bed at night trying to sleep but your legs have other plans for you. Applying warm oil on your feet and lower limbs and massaging them, will greatly reduce the agitation of RLS, in turn, helping you get to sleep faster.

7. PMS, menopause

…and any other condition women may suffer due to hormones will be easier to manage and less painful with a good 15-20 foot massage. Many women who suffer from severe cramping, mood swings, abdominal discomfort and any other conditions associated with hormones will get great relief with a nice foot massage. (and if you happen to be her partner, you will score many brownie points too!)

8. Lower blood pressure.

Nothing like a great foot massage to lower your stress, relax you, get your blood and oxygen moving around and reducing your blood pressure at the same time. this simple little massage is often overlooked in helping reduce BP but it shouldn’t be. It’s extremely effective and the best part is you can do it to yourself, so why not?

9. Flat feet pain relief.

Many people who have flat feet also suffer foot pain as there is no arch and all the pressure of standing and walking is put on your whole foot. A nice deep 15 -minute massage will help lesson the pain and give you happy feet.

Unfortunately, not all of us have someone who can do this for us every night which is why it’s great that you can still get benefits from it if you do it yourself. It’s also possible to find an electronic foot massager, though it will cost you a bit of money, that will produce the same results, if not better. Time to start taking better care of our feet, and our health.
