Music has the power to touch our very souls and none more so than ambient music. I have collected 10 pieces of beautiful music from my collection and found them on youtube and listed them all here. I hope you enjoy these pieces, they really do have the power to transport you to another world.

10 Beautiful pieces of ambient music

Artist/song

Brian Eno – An ending Ascent

This is one of my favourite pieces. I first heard it driving from Edinburgh to Glasgow on a beautiful summers night as the sun was going down, it’s simply amazing.

Arvo Part – Spiegel im Spiegel

This is another beautiful piece of piano music from the Estonian composer. I remember hearing this on a dark night in 1999 looking out the window over Glasgow city centre and I was hooked.

Simple Minds – Shake off the ghosts

Simple minds are not known for their intrumentals but they actually recorded quite a lot of them. This one I heard on a winters night, it was snowing and I was in my girlfriends house at the time. The lights were out, the orange lights outside showed the snow falling heavily and I was standing at the window alone. It’s a moment and a tune I will remember forever.

Bach – Sheep may safely graze – performed by St. Martin-in-the-Fields

I used to be one of those people who thought classical music was boring and a bit dull. However that changed about 10 years ago and this is one of my favourite classical pieces.

Harold Budd & Brian Eno -
The Plateaux of Mirror First Light

Two geniuses at work. This is a beautiful piano piece. I heard this over 10 years ago and appreciate more every time I listen to it.

Vangelis – Hymne

I love Vangelis’ work and this is one of my favourites from them. It’s a bit 80’s but it is still a beautiful piece.

Pachelbel – Canon in D

When I was married a few years ago we had a harpist playing this in the background and it was beautiful. One of my all time favourites even though it might be a bit cliched to classical music lovers.

Brian Eno – Silver Morning

There is something indescribable about this piece. It gets hold of you and transports you into another world, amazing.

Full Sail by Ryan Farish:

I heard this last year and think it is just a beautiful piece of music. It’s upbeat but ambient.

Diatonis – Aurora

I discovered this on youtube a few months back and fell in love with it.

Thanks for the list – especially for introducing me to Diatonis. (Part and Vangelis came up as unavailable though…perhaps it’s my connection?) The ones I listened to were really beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Music is something that is enjoyed by anyone and everyone; and ambient music that relaxes you is something that is liked by all. Even a rock music star doesn’t think such music in the background as a disturbance, but sure will enjoy it!

Music helps physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic, health, and spiritual. In some instances, the client’s needs are addressed directly through music; in others they are addressed through the relationships that develop between the client and therapist. And acoording to some therapist, one way to release stress is to unwind. One good way is to have a vacation. Vacation is one of the things that make it easier for us to put up with the hassle of the things we have to deal with in order to earn money. A lot of people are canceling their vacation this year and getting a payday loan instead, and have a mindset of efforts to save money instead of spending it. The summer vacation to Disneyland is getting canceled for a lot of people, unless you’re a certain disgrace to the Illinois executive branch that was removed recently, and has really bad hair. Still, a getaway can really do you good, so it might be worth a payday loan for a vacation.

I was surprised to see Simple Minds in the list but don’t dispute that this piece deserves to be listed. All in all a good list and nice to have the music there on the page to take a listen.

FC Kahuna’s Hailing? I wonder why still I can’t find the “full version” lyrics of this song. Gotta love Frankie’s voice.

I love Arvo Part. I thought I was the only one who ever listened to him! Glad he made your list. His “Sanctuary” CD is wonderful…very haunting and mesmerizing. Often I listen to Vangelis’ CD “El Greco” on cool fall days as I sit on the deck and think. It is lovely.

Someone mentioned music to fall asleep to. I have fallen asleep to the CD “Numinous” by pianist George Skaroulis for the last 13 years. Same CD…plays every night. George is an amazing artist. He does not read music; he just sits down and composes. His melodies are lovely and ethereal.

Check him out at http://www.georgeskaroulis.com. My favorites are “Sanctuary,” “Reunion,” “Numinous,” and “Athena.”

Thanks for the intoduction to “Brian Eno – An ending Ascent”. I agree that it is awesome, and I can see it being perfect on a beautiful summers night as the sun goes, but not while driving … its way too peaceful and relaxing. I think it would be great to listen to it while just sitting on the porch with the sounds of mother Earth in the background :)
