Many people don’t allow themselves the luxury of thinking big.  I think this may be due to the fact that they don’t believe in themselves enough to allow themselves to think big.

In this article I wanted to give you a technique to start the process of thinking big and I wanted to tell you why it is important to think big.

Planting a thought seed

Planting a thought seed is a fantastic way for you to begin thinking about the life you want and getting it.

Simply put a thought seed is a tiny thought that lets you momentarily dream about what your life could be like if you could have anything.

Thought seeds start like:

“What if I were rich, what would it belike” and you allow yourself to daydream about what it would be like being rich.

“What would I feel like if I had the job I really wanted?” and allow yourself to daydream about having the job you really want and what it would feel like and how you would change as a person because of it.

“what if I could start my own business?”  and so on

Lots of ‘what if’ statements are examples of thought seeds.  Probably the biggest thought seed a lot of people have is ‘what if I won the lottery?’. We’ve actually had conversations at work on this very topic.

Why plant a thought seed

Planting thought seeds are your key to gaining a better life.  Everything you do begins with a thought seed.  That includes having a shower in the morning to get ready for work, having your breakfast, starting a business, starting a relationship etc.  The kind of thought seeds I am talking about are life changing thought seeds not your run of the mill ones which most people have an act on.  Here are some famous thought seeds throughout history:

‘I wonder what it would be like if we had a black president…..’

‘What if it were possible to connect every computer in the world to share information….’

‘I wonder if it would be possible to build a computer that we could use in our homes….’

‘’What if we could explore space and put a machine on the moon….’

‘wouldn’t it be great if we could communicate with anyone using a wire and a handset….’

‘Would it be possible to make light with the flick of a switch….’

‘Wouldn’t it be great to fly like a bird in the skies…………’

There are literally millions of examples of life changing events that start with a thought seed, a tiny little ‘what if’ statement is usually all it takes.  However most people don’t act on these thought seeds and dismiss them for various reasons, mainly because we think we could never do it.  Well I think it’s time we started acting on these thought seeds and nurturing them to grow and be fully realised.

Growing your thought seeds

Not everyone is going to have world changing ideas and that’s okay, but we can affect the world in a small way by changing our own lives for the better.

To change your life you first have to know what you want and what you would love to change about your life.  So the first thing to think about is what would you change about your life if you could.  No need for writing this down just have the thought, think of something right now that you would love to change about your life.

When you have thought about something you would love to change, imagine what it would be like if you had already changed that aspect of your life.  Go into detail here, think about how you would act, think about how your friends and family would act toward you, dream about how it would feel, try and imagine every aspect of the change as if it had already happened.  You can do this for several days or several weeks before going onto the next step.

The next step is to ask yourself what kind of things you would need to do to allow this change to happen.  Start with the very basics.  For example if you wished you could have a better job you could think the first thing you would have to do is where you could get some training to better your chances of getting your ideal job, or you could think about looking at internet job sites to get an idea of what the employers are looking for.  Think about every aspect of the process it would take to make the change you desire.  Again take as much time as you want to do this, several weeks if necessary but make sure you think about it often and every day.  This way your mind will keep on working for you and help you spot opportunities to make the change you desire.

Let your thought seeds flourish

The only thing you have to do here is keep thinking about your desires and thinking about the kinds of things you would have to o to make your desires a reality.  There is absolutely no pressure on yourself to do anything or take any action other than thinking about your desires often.

Why do all of this?

A lot of people don’t take the time to think about the things they really want in life.  When you have the initial thought of your desire that may be as far as it goes, but now you have gone a step further and actually thought about the steps that you would have to take to make it happen.

When you do this your brain goes into overdrive and starts noticing things in your life that could bring your desire closer to you.  You will start to see strange coincidences in your life that relates to your desire and a lot of people will take action on these coincidences.

So, just by thinking about your desires with no pressure on your part you may be a step closer to gaining the life you want.

Taking action

Of course there is a need, eventually, to take action, as you will never get anything in life unless you take action.  However, as this process of planting thought seeds brings the action closer to you it is much easier to realise your desires.

You know what I learned just recently, I thought all my past jobs were complete failures and crap. Now that I look at them, each one of them set a different seed for me.
One set the seed of entrepreneurship, another the seed of leadership, another the seed of gratitude and giving.

I mean all it takes is to look back at your past and fully analyze each job, volunteer work, and even education you had.

I really like the concept of thought seeds (it goes especially well with the picture of course :) ). I agree that so many people just never think about the life they want. They have come up against a choice to be a man or a mouse and they’ve chosen mouse. They go by their instincts 100%. I was like that the first couple of years out of college. I am so happy to be planting thought seeds.

Do you suggest any further Law of Attraction stuff with this? Like trying to truly embody the positive emotion that would come from this thought seed coming to pass?

People don’t think big because they don’t believe a life other than mediocrity is possible for them. You’ve got to wonder “why”. Are we so conditioned to live our lives doing what we’re ’supposed’ to do, being who we’re ’supposed’ to be – so who determines that?!

We do – each and every one of us determines who we’re supposed to be, what we’re supposed to do and what we’re supposed to have. If we can dream any dream, why not!

Spending our time thinking about what we’d like, visualizing that kind of life, makes it become more real to us. We just naturally start pursuing what we dream of.

Think big!

Hi,

Great post. Our emotions are the magnetic force which attract similar thoughts, feelings, and eventually results to us. The feeling portion of our words is what adds life to them. Any methods which generate emotions will work for us. Thanks for sharing your strategy, I will practice it.

Reflective post. My favorite seed is the one that parents (ought to) plant in the minds of their young kids: You can do anything if you put your heart to it.

It goes really far.

Thanks for this thought seed. In fact millions of people wanted a good and productive thought seeds in life but failed because they just do the big thinking and forget the doing process which is the vital part of one’s success. Further, one must understand some amenities that embody the growing thought seeds. A lot of people again failed while doing hardworks to reach their aim because they forget the essence of values and attitude. I believe a positive mental attitude would really usher a man into its glorious end. i learned all these keys on life coaching kamja where I credited much of my success from its service.

This is a wonderful post! I’m a blogger who is currently doing some research on the power of thoughts. One of my blogs is a personal finance blog. The very first thing I had to do as I began the process of becoming financially free was changing my thinking. I highly suggest the suggestions made in this blog post.

I agree with the idea of thought seeds and believe that it can work very well if circumstances allow. I know I will sound pessimistic, but let’s look at the real seed; There are many factors that may affect its growth. For an example:the fertility of the soil, which means that with the thought seed one should make sure that his soil (himself, attitude, aptutude, etc)is suitable for the growth of the seed. Secondly, the climate (the conditions surrounding the individual) play an important role in the growth of this seed. The challenge is: “How do you choose the right seed?”

Planting a thought seed to me is similar to what I have been doing for more than 50 years: organizing my goals and reviewing them several times a year. I started with a few ones as a teenager in Cuba; today I live in one of the best places to live in the world and, at 69, I have 24 pages of goals in a Microsoft Word document. I have traveled 51 countries, I became a multimillionaire, I am in excellent physical shape, very active in sports, I have several hobbies that I enjoy very much, and I have been a very happy person. I have achieved most of my goals through my life thanks to start planting though seeds from early in my life.
As we eleborate in our goals we have to plan for small steps to get the big ones, but all starts with a simple thought of the main pourpose.
This advise you are giving in your website, in my opinion, is one of the very best advise that can be given.

I like the sound of planting thought seeds. I love to daydream already and often think about the idea of what my life could be like. The problem is at some point you have to stop thinking about how nice it would be and start thinking about how is can be done.

That said, good article.

Planting just a seed of thought is very easy and does not commit you to anything, so there is no reason not to do it, onee the seed has been planted it can be nutured and with the right encouragement can grow and be guided, and a few years down the line, you would never believe that that now large thing just came from just a thought.

When you sow, you shall reap. There is so much more that we can do with our minds, if only we dare to dream. Great article. Thanks.

I totally agree with all of your great points. I wanna be in that way but honestly I lead a casual life without any pressure nowadays. maybe im not a strong girl but I just feel breathless when shoulder much presure. I eveutally chose to step away. that’s not weak choice but when I went out of pressure I found sky originally looked so blue. i enjoy my everyday life but no need worry about future just make today well. life is short and painful . just enjoy today. what i said is not in negative way but just help some people relieve of pain ( if you think it’s pain).

Great post again,

It breaks down the principle of succeeding/achieving into simple steps emphasizing the importance of each step i.e.planting a thought seed, growing your thought seed(this is were many of us struggle because we love being in our comfort zone), allowing it flourish (i believe this is were optimism, character & patience step in) and finally taking action( i believe each step involves taking action and none can yield any result without any effort).

A great article!

I would just add that sometimes you need to act fast, and turn your thought seeds into reality quick, or else they will be lost.
