Have they added afformations to Webster's yet?

This is a great post. I do know that many people have had success with affirmations before, it has just always set my bull#$% meter off :). My "yeah, right" has always been pretty loud and clear with that. I do see my brain starting with some cynical responses to afformations at first, but I think that this is something I can overcome.

It also helps that my brain is pretty good at solving problems and by presenting this as a question, I will go into problem solving mode. Woo! Thanks for the tip?

Sincerely,
Bryan

Noah you have hit upon the foundation of all good science:
You will never get a useful answer unless you ask the right questions.

I'm a neuroscientist and have been studying the brain and all it's quirks for years now. The afformations you propose work better than "just saying I am rich" because they challenge the brain to understand how "richness" might happen. The brain is also really hard wired to accept things as real if they actually resemble the reality of what you can see around you.

From an evolutionary perspective, if the brain didn't reject things that don't reflect the reality of the world around us, then we would have become extinct eons ago. Those mammoths don't hunt themselves you know.

Genius! You've pointed out why affirmations don't work. You presented an alternative, and gave great examples. Now, we'll have to get to work and start asking ourselves the right questions like, "how can I allow myself to break through to ever higher levels of health?" Thanks so much. Steven Visentin,D.C.
