epitaph for steven aitchison blogger

I am currently writing an article on personal values and principles and was
hoping to post it tonight.  However when I done the research I realised
it was a huge topic so have saved it for another day.  Whilst doing the
research I thought of an exercise to get us going on your values and principles
in life.

The exercise is to write your own epitaph in 106 words or less.

Purpose of the exercise

This exercise is to get you thinking about what’s important in your
life and ultimately it leads you to think about your values and principles
which govern your life.

I will start this exercise and pass it on to 5 different people.  Leave
your own epitaph as a comment or write your own post entitled ‘My epitaph’.  The
person who leaves the best one on this log will receive $10 via paypal (hey
I’m still a struggling semi pro blogger!).

My epitaph

Steven Aitchison, loving husband to Sharon and doting father to two sons.  His
family were the centre of his life.  Writing, blogging and helping others
realise their potential were his passions and he done so with a zest and vigour
rarely, often obsessionally.  His other true passion was the pursuit of
making money, not having it but making it.  He loved a challenge.  He
tried his hand at several businesses eventually settling on new media and public
speaking.  His need to be great at whatever he turned his hand to often
saw him frustrated with the mundane duties of life such as working for an employer.

I would like to pass this ‘My Epitaph’ challenge to:

Steven Olson of www.steve-olson.com
Gleb Reys of www.personaldevelopment.ie
Glenn of www.myempoweringchime.com
Brian Lee of www.geniustypes.com
Maria Palma of www.salondemaria.blogspot.com

He lived out his curiosity, and the world was better for it.

2 That's good, but.... April 9, 2007 at 11:29 pm

I just HATE those “pass it along” memes. If you would have left the “challenge” out it would have been better. Good stuff you wrote, though.

Hi Steven, is there a deadline to this? Haha. if you email me at this 2 weeks starting from tomorrow, i may not be able to reply as i’ll be serving the army. So maybe you’ll just drop me a mail about the results anyway. Hope to hear from you soon till then.. =)

I love your question.

Only thing, the whole ‘what’s
important and values in life’ thing made this
so big that it will have to be relegated to
my life’s list of things to do. It will be near
the top. It will take a while to figure it out.

You are asking me to evaluate my dash. You know,
the space between when you were born and when
you die on your tombstone (1960-1997), the dash.
Only thing, this is asking what I want the dash
to be viewed as as and not what it is.

I guess that is the most important part of this
question. We have the power to change our dash
from this point forward.

I am seriously considering taking the attitude
read elsewhere on the bolgesphere, I want to
live forever or die trying. This way I will
not have a deadline for improving my dash.

Again, thanks.

Hi Jonathan, thanks for your comments.

I like ‘the dash’, great name for a book, a film or an article.

I suppose the dash is the coming from a place of truth and it is in our hearts. You’re right we can change the dash just now and if your words or my words can help someone change their ‘dash’, that could be the purpose of our ‘dash’.

Thank you so much, I love the idea of ‘Changing your dash’, I feel an article coming on.

Hello Steven,
Can you please tell me how you did that superimposing of text on the tombstone? Really neat.

Hi Christine. I used a picture of a headstone and added the text onto it using Macromedia Fireworks 8 (now owned by Adobe).

Hi Steve,

Good article. I read about this in a book some time ago (forgot what book!) but it really helped me.

It’s not a huge thing to write but gets you to think about what is really key to you.

Thanks
Matt
