I have long been a fan of Oprah winfrey and the postiveness
of the topics on her shows. Its a long time since I have watched her
shows, in fact it’s a long time since I have really watched TV. she has
made two shows about the film ‘The Secret’. For anybody who has never
heard of ‘The Secret’ it is worth buying to watch it and learn about the ‘law
of attraction’.

My only problem with the ‘Law of attraction’ and the the teachers
who are teaching it is the way it is taught. It has now become almost
religious and that can have negative connotations and a lot of stigma attached
to it. I believe in teaching about the ‘Law of attraction’ in a subtle
way, and I think if more people taught it this way it would attract more people
toward it.

1 Mark McManus February 22, 2007 at 7:18 am: I loved watching these but also be a aware that there is a follow-up show to this that was recorded a week later. It has Michael Beckwith and James Ray as guests with more audience participation, good stuff!
2 Michael Levine March 13, 2007 at 3:38 pm: The ideas behind “The Secret” is the dream of infantile omnipotence common to so many New Agers and cult zealots. It has absolutely no scientific basis in modern physics despite the many claims made by pseudo-scientists who have financial interests in selling their technology, products or spiritual methods. People are free to believe in anything they want, but to claim this is science is a disgrace and an insult to all the scientific community.
3 Pardeep April 18, 2007 at 4:23 am: The Law of Attraction is a program that allows one to visualize what they want in life, believe they will achieve it, and do everything they can to making it a reality. The Law of Attraction has worked for countless people and has lead them to greater wealth, more happiness, better relationships, and less stress.

However, the Law of Attraction has not worked for everyone as there was an ingredient missing. This ingredient is the secret that can super charge the results of the Law of Attraction.

I feel it is the right thing to share the secret with more people. The awareness that Oprah show can bring is of course very impactful.

I don’t really understand why some people are feeling so negative about her sharing. In fact, if you don’t feel the sharing is good, you can choose not to practice it.

For people who believe and gain benefits from Law of Attraction taught by The Secret, then we will want to share more. You can’t stop people spreading good stuff.

5 Glamour And Company January 26, 2008 at 1:00 pm: It is a broad interpretation of the law of attraction. I agree that it does not work for everyone, and it isn’t scientifically proven, but I would say it probably relates to a high percentage of people.

I did an experiment the other day. I was in the kitchen and I said to myself ‘I am looking for a small red ball’. All of a sudden, I could see lots of candidates that might match like red pieces of leggo and other items that might match. By deciding to seek out those things, I did.

It seems to me ‘The Secret’ is what people would prefer life to be like – that you dont have to work to achieve what you want. Tell that to the thousands of people who want to be President!

8 Joanna March 31, 2008 at 9:54 pm: I find the whole concept of the secret extremely odd. A universal law that works only when you believe in it?? Universal laws always work, whether you believe in them or not. The law of gravitation works, for everyone, even for people who don’t even know that it exists.

You can’t have things just by thinking of them hard enough in a positive way. It would be nice, but it’s just not true.
This way of thinking blames people for everything that happens to them. What do you tell a person with incurable cancer? That they weren’t positive enough. That is adding insult to injury.
I find that stupid and cruel.

What happens whem I’m positive, forgiving etc, to steer the universe in a positive way towards me, and my neighbour is being very negative? Will the universe go neutral then?
In the secret it says that it is a universal law that positives attract. But this is complete nonsense! Positives and negatives attract.
And what is this ‘universe’? The stars, nebuli, planets, background radiation and black holes? Do they really arrange for me to have 10 million dollars just because I was thinking of them so positively?
How can anyone possibly believe such a thing?
10 Steven Aitchison April 1, 2008 at 6:06 am: Hi Joanna, to answer one of your questions ‘what is the universe?’ The universe, in this context, is the energy force which surrounds every living thing on the planet and since all energy is intertwined with each other it means everything is connected.

To attract more positive energy, you change your thoughts towards positivity, your change your feelings toward positivity, you change the core of you towards positivity. It doesn’t happen overnight, so a person who has been negative for years can’t suddenly change toward being positive. You’ve got to truly believe what you are thinking, feel it in every aspect of you, your thoughts, your life, your actions and feel it in your heart.

you can’t just think, I would like a million dollrs to manifest itself. what happens is that you will have the initial thought of attracting a million dollars, then you start to believe it’s possible to attract a million dollars, then you will start to see synchronistic events happen that help you to take action toward making your first million. You will never get anywhere with a thought, you have to take action on the thought.

This is where the film ‘The Secret’ fell down, it didn’t explain to people that you have to take action on your positive thoughts and when you do, more and more, seemingly coincidental, events will start to happen to you which will help you reach your goal.

I honestly believe in the power of positive thinking but only if it is backed up with positive action. In other words stop sitting cross legged thinking positive thoughts, get off your arse and take action, and in the process of taking action practice positive thinking. You don’t need to sit and meditate positivity you can take action and meditate positivity.

11 Joanna April 1, 2008 at 12:22 pm: I’m sorry, but to me this is just fiddlesticks and very unfair at that. It makes people totally responsible for everything that happens to them. This is not only not true, because we simply can’t influence everything that happens to us, it’s also cruel. Go and tell this ’secret’ to parents of a child with an incurable disease if you dare. I find the whole theory both stupid and offensive.
