Great post, Steve. Reading and recognizing when the writing is garbage is something I should do more.

Still, I’m reminded of the ‘rock band’ that used to practice next door to us. We minded that they played – especially at night. They didn’t mind at all. If they did, they wouldn’t have played…and wouldn’t have got better at their craft.

Practice writing content is the path to writing great content. Pardon my garbage:-)

The advise of rereading applies to just about every writing project, as well as blogging.

Sometimes I end up writing long emails and, when I start reading through from the beginning, sections that made perfect sense when I wrote them look an absolute mess and I have to make changes.

A lot of blogs would benefit from their writers taking time to properly read what they’re writing. Including mine.

I totally agree about setting it down for a few hours and rereading multiple times. I appreciate the honesty, and I feel the same way about my own writing sometimes.
