Increasing adsense earnings by 400%

I didn’t really pay much attention to adsense placement or any of the
other advice given on various blogs. I concentrated on the blog and
the writing. However I found myself checking the adsense earnings every
day and wondering why nothing was happening although the traffic was rising.

On December 24th I wrote a message on the Google
Adsense Forum
and asked for a bit of advice. I took on board what
the various replies advised and implemented them. Within 2 days I noticed
a huge difference in my adsense earnings.

I had gone from earning $0.40 cents per day to $1.60 per day. This was
brilliant for me as my goal was to earn $2.00 per day by February 2007. Obviously
I was getting too excited so had to wait for a few weeks to find out if the
clicks would continue. They did and I am averaging about $1.67 per day.

This doesn’t sound much but when you consider that for months I was
stuck on $0.40 per day this is brilliant. It gives me another base from
which to start setting my sights higher.

The advice given

Quite simple really. Put an embedded 728×60 link unit just under the
header image, put a 120×600 link unit in the sidebar and embed a 250×250 link
unit in every post. Make the colours match the blog itself and then see
what happens. Tweak it along the way (which is what I am doing just now)
and then worry about getting the traffic in.

Target

I have set a target of getting $1000 per month from adsense
by September 2007 (sounded impossible in September 2006 considering the poultry
amount I was getting). However, if Google adsense are still around in
9 months I believe I will make my target by writing great content and bringing
in the traffic.

Hope this advice helps you. Head on over to the
Adsense forum
, it’s a great place to just browse.

Hi Steve,

That’s some great progress! Wish you all the best with 1000$ a month idea, I’m slowly working towards similar milestone myself.

Talk to you later!

What you have said certainly helps, but crucially a site requires original content. Following that, the original content needs to be of interest otherwise there is no likelihood of anyone wantung to find your page.

Further to that, you need to find KeyPhrases that you will be able to comete for, I suggest targeting longtail terms in the initial stages whilst you build the power of your site.

MrCrip, what are longtail terms?

Hilary, thank you for your kind comments.

Gleb, I think we’ll be there before you know it.

Thank you for the forum advice! I went to the forum because I hadn’t had ANY clicks since starting my blog about 6 months ago. There were many people willing to help. This is our conversation:
http://groups.google.com/group/adsense-help-basics/browse_thread/thread/e414ef9f1b67161c/ee9eed9435270262
I’ve increased to $4.00 since going there just 2 days ago! The people were very helpful. I’ve started a new blog because of it.

Hi Steven thanks for the information I’ve had similar experience with AdSense ad placement and color schemes. Would you mind sharing the code or plugins for the “embed a 250×250 link unit in every post”? I’m new to WordPress and have been having no little problem solving some of these coding problems. Thanks in advance, MarkH

Huh, first comment i have ever seen being more than 20x longer than the corresponding blogpost.

Congratulations though on rising your income at that level. I´m still even far away from that, but i will work hard on achieving my personal goal.

Keep up the good work.

My best advice is make a website that is solely focus one topic. For example, I made a website solely about chat, and below each of the navigation bar, i put text link ads. This works. The google crawler quickly sense my topic and many chat ads appeared instead of irrelevant ads. Check it out:

Keeping your ads above the fold and blending them into your page will help with the CTR as well. You might also want to make sure that you are targeting the right keywords so that you get more traffic from the Search Engines as well. More traffic in = More traffic out :)
